I got this from Amnesty International:

Dear Tracy,

Yesterday, women throughout the world were raped, beaten, sold into slavery and killed. In many cases, their attackers carried weapons obtained through the irresponsible and unregulated weapons trade. The same thing is happening today, and will happen again tomorrow unless we do something about it.

You can help change this story today. World leaders are meeting over the next 2 weeks to negotiate a global treaty to stop irresponsible arms transfers. Donate to help Amnesty pass a strong Arms Trade Treaty and defend human rights.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) alone, tens of thousands of women and girls have been brutalized by armed groups and by Congolese security forces. Governments -- including those of the U.S., China, France, the Ukraine -- have supplied arms to the DRC, despite the rampant abuses being committed there. Senior officials in the DRC armed forces in turn often sell or give weapons to armed groups, including those they are fighting against.

The situation in the DRC demonstrates the urgent need for governments around the world to regulate the lucrative arms trade and stop transfers where there is a substantial risk that the arms are likely to be used to commit or facilitate abuses.

Will you help keep weapons out of the hands of human rights abusers? Support Amnesty's efforts to defend human rights, including regulating the out-of-control global arms trade that is fueling rampant violence against women throughout the world.

The time is now!

On March 15, world leaders will gather in New York to negotiate and vote on an Arms Trade Treaty. The Obama administration must lead the international community to forge a treaty with the strongest possible human rights safeguards, but powerful special interests like the NRA are spreading lies and misinformation in an attempt to undermine this effort.

Your donation today will help support Amnesty's large-scale mobilization campaign. In the next two weeks, we will stand up to NRA officials' efforts to derail negotiations, educate the public about the deadly effects of irresponsible arms transfers and urge the Obama administration to fight for a bulletproof arms trade treaty.

Make an urgent donation today.

Thank you

Sincerely,
