A few hundred people gathered last week to protest the loss of a park in the heart of Istanbul.
Police arrived at the scene with water cannons and tear gas, leaving more than a thousand peaceful protesters injured and at least two dead.

Urgent steps must be taken by the Turkish authorities to prevent further deaths and injuries and allow protesters access to their fundamental rights, as well as ensuring the security of all members of the public.

Amnesty International has launched an urgent call to its activists across the world to take action on Turkey.

Sincerely,

Alex Neve
