Dear Tracy
In honour of International Human Rights Day on December 10,  I'm writing to ask if you will reinforce your commitment to defend human rights.
Human rights heroes are dedicated, passionate, just, and willing to do whatever it takes to defend what’s right. Day after day they put their life in danger to give a voice to vulnerable communities in some of the most oppressive places on earth. Others write letters, demand their own governments to speak out, or donate to support the work of other defenders. If you take action to secure human rights, you are a hero in our eyes. Be a human rights hero today.
Donate today to join human rights defenders, prisoners of conscience, victims of human rights violations, and Amnesty International supporters as we work together to defend human rights.
As someone who cares about Individuals at Risk, you’ve probably heard of Gao Zhisheng. He’s one of China’s most respected human rights lawyers and because of his work, he’s disappeared twice already. In prison, he was tortured and beaten to within an inch of his life.
Just a month after he was returned home, he disappeared for the second time. For twenty months, his wife and children had no idea if he was dead or alive. Gao is currently being held in Shaya county prison, and he’s not the only one being held for defending human rights.
Harsh measures are taken against government critics, political activists and human rights defenders. They face harassment, intimidation, arbitrary and illegal detention, enforced disappearances, torture and the possibility of death in custody as a result of their activities.
Donate today to help end these atrocities in China and all over the world.
Yolanda Oquelí opposes mining that harms or threatens the well-being of her community in Guatemala. After a protest, she was shot and gravely wounded just outside her home. The threats don’t end with mining and shootings. Across Guatemala, human rights defenders are harassed and attacked on a regular basis. Without your help and other Amnesty supporters, there’s no telling if they would be able to continue their work.
Please donate today to help these activists and defenders keep working for their communities.
Amnesty International is funded by our members and donors, and no funds are sought or accepted from governments. You can help us do our human rights work. Help defend human rights. Donate today.
Thank you for defending human rights and standing with human rights heroes throughout the world. If you have already made a recent donation to Amnesty International then I thank you for your support.
Most Sincerely,

Alex Neve,
Secretary General, Amnesty International Canada
