Your support felt in Louisiana

I got this from Amnesty International:

Your activism is making a difference.

Dear Tracy,

Three days after he was released from prison, iconic 'Angola 3' member Herman Wallace died — a free man.

Thanks to your activism, over 110,000 Amnesty activists wrote letters, made calls and joined protests calling on Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal to release Herman.

I am beyond grateful that Herman passed surrounded by loved ones after surviving a nightmare of more than 41 years in solitary confinement. But I am angry that the State of Louisiana's cruelty did not let up, even at Herman's final breath.

We are still seeking justice for Albert Woodfox — the last imprisoned member of the 'Angola 3.'

Herman and Albert were placed in solitary after the 1972 murder of a prison guard. However, no physical evidence links either man to the crime. The Angola 3 maintain that they were convicted for organizing against injustice and violence.

I just returned from the Louisiana State Capitol where I delivered more than 25,000 petitions to Attorney General James Caldwell demanding that he intervene in Albert's case. Here are some photos from the event you helped make possible.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to human rights.

Sincerely,

Jasmine Heiss
