Jailed Ethiopian journalist speaks from prison

I got this from Amnesty International:

Jailed journalist Eskinder Nega speaks out from prison in Ethiopia
Amnesty prepares a massive letter-writing campaign for Eskinder on December 10th
"I am jailed, with around 200 other inmates, in a wide hall that looks like a warehouse. For all of us, there are only three toilets. Most of the inmates sleep on the floor, which has never been swept. About 1,000 prisoners share the small open space here at Kaliti Prison. One can guess our fate if a communicable disease breaks out..."

It's hard to imagine the inner strength of Eskinder Nega, as he serves an outrageous 18-year prison term in these conditions.

The human rights violation faced by Eskinder are shared by his whole family, as his wife Serkalem, a newspaper publisher, was also imprisoned in 2007 and was forced to give birth to their child while in detainment.
Now, Amnesty International members worldwide will be taking up Eskinder's case on a massive scale. Our 3 million strong global membership will be mobilized on December 10th, International Human Rights Day, to write letters, and Eskinder's wrongful detainment is one of 12 priority actions chosen for this coordinated global effort.

Pledge to write a letter on Human Rights Day

With help from activists like you, we're doing everything we can to protect the human rights of courageous human rights defenders like Eskinder and Serkalem.

Thank you!

Sincerely,
