job interviews/ romance scams/ crazy car accident story

Sept. 4, 2023 Job interviews: All these these interviews were in May 2019.

Cleaning company phone job interview:  I have never applied to be a cleaner before, so I tried it.

Pros:

1. The pay was $18-20/hr.

2. The duties would be cleaning at senior homes and hotels.

Cons:

1. I don't know, this may be hard.

The questions were:

How do you clean granite counters?

How do you clean hardwood floors?

My opinion: You need a smartphone.  I told them I didn't have a car.  I could be paired up with a worker who drives and has a car.  I didn't get hired, but that's okay because I wasn't that interested.

A Cultural Association: There are quite a lot of cultural associations in Edmonton.

Pros:

1. It was 2 buses and 45 min to get there.

2. The hours are Fri. and Sat.  from 4pm-8pm.  It's not that late.

3. $15/ hr.  As a busser, you get 10% of tips off the server's tips.

4. Free meal on shift.

5. The duties was to be a busser.  There are lunch and dinner times.  There are 2 servers at a time.  Put dishware out.  Learn alcohol.

Cons:

1. I don't know if this may be too hard.

My opinion: I was neutral about this job.  If I get hired, I may last.  When I attended the interview, the woman said: "Oh you're here.  There were a couple of people who were supposed to come by for an interview and they didn't show up."

I had bosses say that to me when I come in for an interview at a health equipment store and a café.

Oct. 2, 2023 Asian full- service restaurant: I probably applied to be a server or busser.

Pros:

1. It was in downtown.

2. The hours are 11:30am-9pm.  I can work in the daytime.

3. The pay is $15/hr and there are tips.

Cons: None.

My opinion: I would work there if I got hired.  The place is still open.

Maid services: I attended the interview and it was really far away like 2 buses and an hour to get there.

Pros:

1. One of the employees will pick me at my house and we'll drive to clean the houses.

2. We work in teams of 2 or 3 people.  There are 5-8 hr shifts a day.

3. The pay is $16/hr.

4. There is 1 week of training.

Cons:

1. The boss told me the job was physically hard.

My opinion: I was neutral about the job.  I didn't really care if I got hired or not.

Older women's clothing store:

Pros:

1. It was close by like 1 bus to get there.

2. 3 or 4 days a week.  The hours on weekdays are 1:15-9:15 pm.  Sun. are 11:45am-5:15 pm.  10-20 hrs a week.

3. The pay is $15/ hr.  No commission.

4. There are daily sales goals for the whole store.

Cons:

1. You work alone on Sun.  Also from 4:30-9pm.

The store is in a mall and it's safe.

My opinion: I would work there if I got hired.

Oct. 3, 2023 Car dealership:

Pros:

1. This will take 2 buses and 50 min. to get there.

2. The hours are Mon. - Fri- 9am- 6pm.  There may be a Saturday.

3. The pay is $15-17/hr.

4. The duties: answer phones, take payments, set appointments.  There will be 2 days and 8 hr training each day.

Get a driver's license to advance and I will pay for it.

Cons:

1. It may be too hard for me.

My opinion: I didn't get hired.  I was neutral because I have never worked a car dealership before.

Full- service bistro:

Pros:

1. It was 2 buses to get there.

2. They are open day to night.  I can work in the day time.

3. I can work as a server.

4. They sell delicious food.

Cons: None.

My opinion: I would work there if I got hired.  The restaurant is still open.

Pizza and steak house: The position was a kitchen helper or cook.

Pros:

1. It was close by.  I can walk there.

2. The hours are full- time like 11 am- 7 or 8pm.  Tues.- Sat.

3. The pay is $15/ hr.  The tips vary.  There is a free meal when you work.

4. I will be chopping veggies and met.  I will cook burgers, fries, pizza, and donairs.

Cons:

1. It may be too hard for me, but I can try.

My opinion:  I would work there if I got hired.  The restaurant is still open.

Bench: I can write about the company name because the store closed down and I'm not writing anything negative.

Pros:

1. I can take 1 bus to get there.  It will be 1 hr long.

2. They're hiring for part- time and full- time.

3. There will be sales goals and individual goals.  Selling clothes.  I would learn how to use the till.

Fri. Oct. 20, 2023 "Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds Have the Most Hilarious Guideline for Their Daughter’s Halloween Costume": Today I found this article by Averi Baudler on Yahoo:

Ryan Reynolds isn’t about to let his and Blake Lively’s 8-year-old daughter, James, cross the SAG-AFTRA strike picket line — not even on Halloween.

After the union advised its members to “celebrate Halloween this year while also staying in solidarity” with SAG-AFTRA amid the ongoing strike by “[dressing] up as characters from non-struck content, like an animated TV show,” according to Variety, Ryan was sure to let the world know that he fully understood the assignment.

“I look forward to screaming 'scab' at my 8 year old all night,” Reynolds tweeted shortly after the news broke. “She's not in the union but she needs to learn.”

Although the actor was quick to poke fun at the union’s statement, his tweet comes just months after he and Blake donated a notable $1 million to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation in August to help provide emergency financial assistance to performers on strike.

Wed. Oct. 25, 2023 "Food Banks Canada report paints dire picture of Canada-wide affordability crisis": Today I found this article by Darryl Greer on BNN Bloomberg:

"We're not talking about a small investment in the future of this country," she said. "What really drives political courage, to be honest, is everyday folks like you and I getting mad enough to make this a ballot issue, to make this an issue at the election, to not let our elected officials at every level of government off the hook anymore."

Even as the report paints a grim picture, Beardsley said food banks remain places of "hope," where communities come together to lift up those in need.

For those in the food bank sector to be ultimately successful would mean no more need for them, and they're essentially hoping to work themselves "out of a job," she said.

Until then, Beardsley said, "there's no choice but to keep raising our voices, telling our stories, sharing the data, and if we've got a whole country behind us, I don't think we can be ignored."

Henry's party: Henry made nachos with cheese, red, orange, and yellow peppers in there.  Duc bought garlic bread.  I brought BBQ chips.  I was there from 7:30-11:30pm.

Henry

Denny

Samuel

Abbas

Duc

Anne

Duc drove me there and home when this ended at 11:30pm.

We played Bingo, a game that Duc brought.  I called the numbers.  Anne won, and got the rest of the Korean BBQ dried meat.

Israel: We talked about Hamas attacking Israel news.

My opinion: Mark Twain said: "History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme."  Last year was Russia attacking Ukraine.  This year is Hamas attacking Israel.

Romance scams: Anne told us about her friend who got caught up in a romance scam.  Her friend lived in Canada and her internet boyfriend lived in the US.  They only talked in email and text.  They never talked on the phone or video chat.

He asked her for money because he needed it, and his money is like tied to the house mortgage and not a liquid asset.  She worked overtime to pay and then asked her dad for money.  The dad said:  "I need to talk to him and he has to ask me for money."

The boyfriend wouldn't go on the phone or video chat with the dad.  She got scammed out of $5000 and maybe more.  She reported it to the police.

I then told them about how I got into a job scam:

This is from my Jul. 2017 blog post: This is where the CSR and manager at the bank explain to me that this is a job scam:

Scream 4/ Southgate Construction scam

Crazy car accident story: On the ride home, the radio station was on 91.7 Kiss.  Pepper and Dylan was talking to this woman who had a near death experience.

Woman: I went on a date with this guy and he had a muscle car and the seat belts were on the waist (and not on the chest or something like that.)  I didn't really feel comfortable.  After dinner, he drove and then made this turn.  All I saw was headlights and thought: "Is this how I'm going to die?"

I then woke up and a firefighter yelled: "She's alive!  She's alive!"  My date was apologizing frantically and he got some bumps and bruises.

I was in the ER and my dad was there.  He found out my date was driving and was yelling and calling his name so he could go and fight him.  My date ran off.

The doctor said that I may not walk again, and when someone tells me that I can't do something, I want to prove them wrong.  I was in physical therapy, and then after 6 weeks I took my first step.

After the date, it turns out he wasn't 24, he was 19.  If I knew he was the age of my kid brother, I wouldn't go out with him.

Pepper or Dylan said: I thought you were going to say: "He was with me everyday during physical therapy and then we got married."

My opinion: The lesson is to listen to your intuition.  She did say she was uncomfortable with the car and seatbelts.  How was she to predict she was going to be in a car accident?

The woman didn't say anything about suing the date for getting in the car accident.

This was triggering for me.  This reminds me of the time when this girl Sarah Mroz in gr. 12 at my high school passed away because of a car accident.

I cut out the article when she passed away.  A year later, I cut out another article about her family did sue the driver/ guy she was dating for negligent driving.

I wrote about this in my Aug. 2022 blog post:

"Give yourself some breathing space" comments/ Glenda Rigon's death/ Sarah Mroz's death

Please be careful driving.

Sun. Oct. 22, 2023 Alert: Missing Persons Unit: I was watching season 1 last week.

"Follows Nikki Batista after she joins the Philadelphia Police Department's Missing Person's Unit to help other people find their loved ones at the same time that she is looking for her missing son."

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt18699118/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

My opinion: This show is average.  I like the action.  I mainly wanted to watch this because in the pilot, Nikki and Jason's son Keith who went missing 6 years ago is found.  However, they have to do a DNA test to make sure if it really is him and know what happened to him.

Is Keith who he says he is?

The Family: This show reminds me of this show:

"A community is rattled when a politician's son, who was presumed murdered years ago, returns home."

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4428038/?ref_=fn_al_tt_12

My opinion: This is a different show, but I like The Family a lot more.  This is really good writing and the story is more dark and twisted.

Mon. Oct. 23, 2023 Winter: It started snowing in Edmonton.  It's officially winter here.

Snack reviews: I bought these at Wal- Mart.

Lay's Roast Chicken: This does taste like Roast Chicken, but I didn't really like it.

Lay's Fries and Gravy: This tastes like Fries and Gravy.  I like it.  It's for a limited time only.  However, this is 220 g and the other Lays are 235 g.

In 2015, President's Choice had poutine chips and they were good.

These are chocolate covered marshmallow cookies.

Whippet Strawberry: Average.

Whippet Maple: Average.

Whippet Black forest: Average.
