"Time to know your worth, creatives"/ Video producer

Dec. 28, 2015 "Time to know your worth, creatives": I cut out this article by Julie Tyios in 24 News on Dec. 5, 2011.  It listed these careers by The Working Group that says these are in-demand in Canada.  Here's the e-edition:

Information architect: An information Architect provides positive user experience by planning and designing the information structure for websites and web applications. This position focuses on the target audience, the technologies that are used to create the sites and the actual information on the site. An Information Architect will organize information and design strategies using data from usability testing on how users interact with a company’s communications systems.

Information Architects must be able to translate user behavior into media structure, craft interactive experiences, produce workflow diagrams and other production materials, as well as organize information into site maps, to name few job duties. They also must be able to coordinate with Web Producers and creative and production departments to implement their strategies. An understanding of web production software, such as Visio, Dreamweaver, Office and Photoshop is required.

A degree in information technology, MIS or Engineering is generally preferred for the Information Architect position. A strong portfolio is also considered beneficial.

My opinion: It seems like graphic design.  I would have to get a degree in this and I'm not that passionate about it.

Interactive Marketing Director:

Job Duties: The interactive marketing director could be a new position in some firms; in others, it is a well-established role. Typical responsibilities include planning, developing, managing and executing initiatives to grow market share through finding new customers and increasing loyalty among existing customers. Identifying new user channels to increase engagement is another typical job duty for the interactive marketing director. Testing, measuring and refining marketing efforts, building brand awareness and improving the user experience are additional ways interactive marketing directors help organizations meet objectives. Employing new measuring methods, such as web analytics, increasing search engine optimization (SEO), and directing social marketing efforts are also typical activities for these marketing professionals.

Education and Training Requirements

Most interactive marketing director jobs require at least a bachelor’s degree; many employers prefer to hire candidates with experience or advanced education, including master’s degrees.

My opinion: It seems to be very business- like.

Mobile Designer/ developer:

In the role, you’ll work closely with the Mobile Product team to design the next generation of mobile websites and apps across multiple platforms: iPhone, Android, Windows Phone 7, and Mobile Web.

• Provide strategic thinking and leadership
• Conceive, manage, and lead project design from start to finish

Basic Qualifications:

• Experience in agile methodology and working closely with the immediate scrum team on a day-to-day basis
• Experience with Native app design for both iPhone and Android
• Knowledge of Javascript capabilities (i.e., what can be done on mobile with AJAX and emerging mobile JS libraries)
• Experience with HTML 5 and CSS3

My opinion: It seems to be very technology and a lot to learn.  I have thought that it would be cool and fun to create an app, but then it stops there.

Online project manager:

Accomplishes Web project objectives by establishing project scope; designing and delivering solutions; leading team members.

Updates job knowledge by tracking technology and project management advances; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

Web Project Manager Skills and Qualifications:

Web Savvy, Project Management, Planning, Verbal Communication, Written Communication, Process Improvement, Analyzing Information , Reporting Skills, Problem Solving, Perspective, Problem Solving

My opinion: It seems kind of hard.

My opinion: This is like graphic design too.

Video producer: Of course this is the only job out of the list that I'm interested in.  I have been trying to get my TV script The Vertex Fighter produced from 2008-2012.  I pitched a little in 2013-2015.

Producers play an integral role in the television, film and video industries. A producer will oversee each project from conception to completion and may also be involved in the marketing and distribution processes.

Producers work closely with the directors and other production staff on a shoot. Increasingly, they need to have directing skills as they may be the director and be in charge of all project operations. Producers arrange funding for each project and are responsible for keeping the production within the allocated budget.

Web designer/ developer:

A web designer/developer is responsible for the design, layout and coding of a website. They are involved with the technical and graphical aspects of a website - how the site works and how it looks. They can also be involved with the maintenance and update of an existing site.

After establishing the target audience for a website and identifying the type of content it will host, a web designer/developer will:

  • write the programming code, either from scratch or by adapting existing website software and graphics packages to meet business requirements
  • test the website and identify any technical problems
  • upload the site onto a server and register it with different search engines.

My opinion: It's like graphic design again.  I did learn how to create websites when I was at the Graphic Communications program at NAIT.

Massage therapist: I was working at my second restaurant job and I met this woman in her 50s who worked there.  She said she was a massage therapist before.  However, after working for a few years, your hands will start not working as well because you put so much pressure and weight on it.
