30 Days of Night/ Channing Tatum/ sympathetic character

Feb. 6 30 Days of Night: I saw the last 1hr and half of this movie. I feel like this has been done before on 28 Days Later and Dawn of the Dead, except these are zombie movies. 30 Days of Night is about vampires. All three movies are where a group of people have to fight monsters to survive.

I went on imdb.com to get a more clear understanding of the first hour I missed. It's a small Alaskan town, and for 30 days, the sun doesn't rise. It's then a gang of vampires attack the town. It was scary, there was lots of tension. It's well- written and unpredictable. There was lots of fire and explosions.

It stars Josh Hartnett. I like him in the cop comedy Hollywood Homicide and O (based on Shakespeare's Othello.) It also has Melissa George (Lauren on Alias season 3, and Amityville Horror.) It was cool to see Mark Rendall. He was on a The Listener episode where his parents were murdered during a break in.

Feb. 7 Quote: I read in The Globe and Mail: "Take care of the pennies, and the dollars will take care of themselves."

I read about the author who wrote The Happiness Project. She talks about how to be happy:

1. Make your bed.
2. Keep a one- sentence journal everyday.
3. Hug people for at least 6 seconds, and do it often.

Tosh.O: Within the first 5 min of this show, Daniel made two abortion jokes. However, I did find something funny and weird. The police raid a strip club.

Cut to a bunch of women in their underwear, and they're all sitting on the couches. The camera is panning around, and the women are all hiding their faces. The camera pan to a blonde woman and she is waving and smiling at the camera.

Daniel: Looks like somebody's parents are dead.
lol. It was funny because it was so unexpected to have one woman wave, and it was weird because you didn't expect it.

Strip clubs: That brings me to my analysis. Strip clubs can be funny, except I don't totally know how to write it. I was watching Parks and Recreation and Amy Poehler's character was trying to cheer up Aziz Ansari's character.

AP: Is there a place where you go to be happy?
Me: A strip club.I was right, they go to the Glitter Factory.
They do some comedy for that ep.

There was an episode of Desperate Housewives where Susan learns her ex-husband Carl has a side business. The lawyer tells her it's unconventional.
Me: It's a strip club.
I was right. It did introduce Julie Benz (Darla from Buffy, Rita from Dexter) to be a woman that Susan helps quit stripping. We'll see how the storyline goes.

I also like that new Canadian show Republic of Doyle. They had a character go into a strip club, but they only showed the outside. Then a couple eps later, they actually enter the strip club. There are only five episodes they aired.

Now I'm getting some more flashbacks of Tru Calling and Lie to Me where they showed strip clubs.

Allan Hawco: He's the lead Jake Doyle on Republic of Doyle. I just added him as a friend on Facebook and told him that he's cute and funny on the show. It's a funny show, it's like he gets punched in the face every episode so far. He also writes and produces the show. I even told him that I am trying to get into TV writing.

Feb. 8 Job search: Today I emailed my resume to a dentist office. They said they were looking for someone with dental experience, but I don't have any. Well, don't put obstacles in front of yourself. They might make an exception. I went to the Royal Alexandra hospital and applied to be an administrative assistant.

Job: I called up the call centre, and they said I don't have any shifts at all for me this week. Just like last week. I asked to make sure that I still work there. Remember last time, they gave me one day of training and decided to not hire me. The supervisor said something about not knowing my availability, and then I gave them my full availability for the next two weeks. When I picked up my paycheck last week, I did give them my availability for the next week.

College: I read in the Metro that college can be like a "holding pen" for drifters. They're wasting time and money because some of students don't want to tell their parents they don't know what to do with their lives. The advice is go get a job, and read up on stuff and then you can eventually figure out what you want to do.

Shawn Roberts: I'm sure you've seen this guy before. He's the guy who kissed Rogue (Anna Paquin) in X-Men. He played a bad guy on Degrassi, a dactyl on Flash Gordon, a mentally disturbed on Flashpoint, a love interest in the vamp movie Thralls. Lots of little work. Now he's in a Mel Gibson movie Edge of Darkness. He's Canadian, good for him.

Music: I was looking up Donnie Klang, and then I found this pop duo called Playback who opens up for him. They're good. You can check out their R&B dance/ pop at:

www.myspace.com/playbackThey kind of remind me of DK's friend Frankie Boz (www.myspace.com/nyboz). Boz is in a pop duo called FM (www.myspace.com/fmmusic2831).

Channing Tatum: He's in Dear John and he was on the Jimmy Fallon show.

CT: Dear John is written by Nicholas Sparks who also wrote The Notebook. Every time my wife and I watch that movie together, at the end, she always says to me: "I hope we go out like that." I'm like: "Why are you talking about this?"
The audience laughs.

CT says his dad is in the movie. It's where he plays a man who thanks John's character for serving in the army. CT actually says his dad's line verbatim. lol.

Charity: If you want to donate to Haiti, and have 100% of it go to them, donate to: Plan International Canada and Adventist Development and Relief Agency Canada.

Feb. 9 Sympathetic character: I was thinking about the lead Amy on Secret Life of the American Teenager. She gets good grades, is in band, well- behaved and she gets pregnant. She's a sympathetic character. This made me reflect back on real life.

I used to go to gr. 7 with this girl Ashley, and she got pregnant. I wasn't surprised because she wasn't good in school and she was boy crazy. If she was a TV character, I wouldn't feel much sympathy for her. It's also like giving this message to teen girls that think: "I get good grades in school and I'm not boy crazy. I won't get pregnant." The point of Amy is that the message is teen pregnancy can happen to anyone.

It also made me think of Angela. She was the friend who told me she saw Ashley at the bus stop and she looked "very pregnant." Angela and Ashley were closer friends than I was with Ashley. If Angela was a TV character, and she got pregnant, she's a sympathetic character.

I do feel sorry for Ashley. I'm not going to call her names or laugh at her. Angela is a honors student, and well- behaved. If Angela got pregnant, I would be surprised. I wouldn't be surprised if she stayed pregnant. I remember like when we were 19, and Angela said she was pro-choice, but she wouldn't go through with the procedure.

Saying: There's that saying: "Be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it." I wish the call centre won't give me shifts, because I have come to dislike working there. Well my wish has come true. I still get to put on my resume that I work there. 5 months and counting.
