Stop journalist kidnappings

Stop journalist kidnappings

Dear Tracy,

When the armed group calling itself the Islamic State beheaded U.S. reporter James Foley this year, we were tragically reminded of how dangerous a journalist's job can be.

At least 69 journalists have been killed covering the Syrian conflict; more than 80 have been kidnapped; approximately 20 are still missing.

Make your first donation to Amnesty. Please help Amnesty protect human rights defenders and journalists to ensure that they can carry out their work safely and without harassment. Donate now and your donation will go twice as far through our December match challenge.

Plus, when you make a donation of $50 or more, we'll send you an Amnesty t-shirt so you can start a conversation about human rights wherever you go.

In conflict-affected countries like Syria, journalists are targeted simply for doing their job.

With your support, we are pressuring world leaders to hold the Syrian government and armed groups responsible for human rights abuses - including those targeting journalists.

Unless you and I apply pressure consistently, politicians will only turn their heads. Donate to support our efforts investigating disappearances and threats and publicizing abuses through our global campaigns.

Our team is also working to help people unlawfully detained by Syrian authorities. These activists, lawyers and humanitarian workers have done nothing more than peacefully oppose government policies. Many are still missing. And those lucky enough to be released have testified to being subjected to torture and other ill-treatment.

Please help Amnesty ensure journalists and human rights defenders can do their work without fear or intimidation. Until December 31st, your donation will be matched.

Steven Hawkins

P.S. Donate before December 31st and your donation will go twice as far. Thank you.
