There are a lot of companies there.

Construction companies
Caregivers companies

They aren't hiring for admin assistant positions, and are hiring other positions like construction workers and cooks.

Mar. 4, 2024 Bredin Centre- Job Club: I went there from 9:30 am- 11:45 am.  They helped us with our resumes and how to apply to jobs.

Here are the other 2 blog posts of the week:

My week:

Thurs. Feb. 22, 2024 "Lynx Air to cease operations Monday, obtains creditor protection": Today I found this article by Lily Dupius on CBC:

Lynx Air, a Calgary-based airline that launched less than two years ago with a promise to make air travel more affordable for Canadians, says it will cease operations on Monday.

The news came as the low-cost airline announced it had sought and obtained an initial order for creditor protection from the Court of King's Bench of Alberta.

"Over the past year, Lynx Air has faced a number of significant headwinds including rising operating costs, high fuel prices, exchange rates, increasing airport charges and a difficult economic and regulatory environment," said the company in a news release.

"Despite substantial growth in the business, ongoing operational improvements, cost reductions and efforts to explore a sale or merger, the challenges facing the company's business have become too significant to overcome."

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/lynx-air-creditor-protection-airlines-canada-1.7123247

Any investor group worth its salt would know instinctively that ultra-low cost airlines have the life span of a banana almost everywhere but especially in Canada with its vast distances between hub cities. Reality is that acquisition and operating costs are a struggle for even the established air carriers to meet their financial objectives. Lynx was doomed from the start to end quickly but still have to give then credit for giving it a go.

Wed. Feb. 28, 2024 "Earn a fixed salary? You might be working for free tomorrow": Today I found this article Philippe de Montigny on CBC:

Rohith Krishnan was "bummed" when he found out he's not getting paid for the extra day of work during leap years.

Employers typically pay their salaried workers the same yearly amount, whether the calendar year has 365 or 366 days, unless the contract states otherwise. As a result, the average salaried worker is potentially losing out on hundreds of dollars, while employers collectively save billions.

"You still have your expenses for that day," the senior tax associate working in Toronto pointed out. Meals, gas and transit fares still add up for many people on Feb. 29, Krishnan said.

"I think we should be compensated."

Consider this: the average salaried worker earned the equivalent of $43.88 an hour, including overtime pay, according to the latest figures from Statistics Canada. So for a typical eight-hour day, someone would be losing out on $351, before taxes and other deductions.

Feb. 28, 2024 "Drea De Matteo Reveals Full Extent Of Financial Troubles Before Admitting, 'OnlyFans Saved My Life, 100 Percent'": Today I found this article on Deadline:

Despite year hears on The Sopranos, Drea Matteo had two kids, a mother with dementia, a flooded house, a massive unpaid mortgage bill and $10 in the bank when she decided to post racy photos on the subscription site OnlyFans. The impact was immediate.

“I was like, holy sh*t,” recalled the actress in a recent interview. “In five minutes, I was able to pay back Compass real estate who kept the sale of my house.”

“They put me into foreclosure and my house had flooded, so I was trying to sell the house quickly. I wanted to try and sell it before they took it,” the actress told the Daily Mail.

“At the same time, I lost my mom, and my other mom, who has dementia, had run out of money for her caregiver. I didn’t know which way was up.”

The move to the subscription site allowed her to support her two kids and even finance her own streetwear brand, Ultrafree.

“It saved us. OnlyFans saved my life, 100 percent. I can’t believe I’m saying that, but it really did save us.”

My opinion: I wrote this before:

This reminds me of this book I read back in 2006 by Robert T. Kiyosaki:

Poor dad: Money is the root of all evil.

Rich dad: The lack of money is the root of all evil.

College tuition and living costs should be more affordable.

Thurs. Feb. 29, 2024  "Oprah Winfrey's departure from WeightWatchers sends stock tumbling": Today I found this article on CBC.  This is about Winfrey donating money to charity:

Former talk show host Oprah Winfrey is leaving the WeightWatchers board of directors and donating millions of dollars in the weight management firm's stock to charity, the company said Thursday, sending its stock tumbling in early trading.

The exit of the media icon and celebrity shareholder, who has been a board member since 2015, comes at a time when WeightWatchers is struggling to turn a profit. The stock fell nearly 23.2 per cent Thursday morning and has more lost more than half its value so far this year.

"I look forward to continuing to advise and collaborate with WeightWatchers and CEO Sima Sistani in elevating the conversation around recognizing obesity as a chronic condition, working to reduce stigma, and advocating for health equity," Winfrey said.

Winfrey will donate her WW shares to the National Museum of African American History and Culture, helping "eliminate any perceived conflict of interest around her taking weight loss medications," the weight-loss services firm said late Wednesday.

Fri. Mar. 1, 2024 "The Body Shop Canada to close 33 stores, end online sales": Today I found this article on CBC:

The Body Shop will close 33 of its Canadian stores and end online sales, the Canadian subsidiary of the U.K. beauty and cosmetics shop announced.

Earlier this month, the Body Shop International was acquired by a private equity firm and put into administration. At that time, the company told CBC News that its Canadian stores would not be impacted by the change.

CBC News has reached out to a spokesperson for more information.

Tues. Mar. 5, 2024 "Fake websites for real companies are scamming Canadian consumers and businesses": Today I found this article by Anis Heydari on CBC.  Please be careful when shopping online:

Avoiding online scams is nothing new for many Canadians, but companies and anti-fraud professionals are warning consumers to watch for fake listings on search engines that try to redirect people to fraudulent versions of familiar companies and brands.

These listings pose as existing businesses and involve new search results popping up, either directing consumers to a fake website that looks similar to the real thing, or providing phone numbers that don't actually lead to the company in question.

Fri. Feb. 23, 2024 Law and Order Toronto: Criminal Intent: Today I saw the pilot.  It was good and I won't watch this again.  There was a good mystery, but there wasn't anything that made me want to watch more.

I have Telus on Demand and this show is on it.  The episode(s) don't expire until 2031.  If I want to watch this, I can go on here.

The Rookie: The season 6 premiere was good.

Wed. Mar. 6, 2024 The Cleaning Lady: I saw the season 3 premiere and this was average.  Adan Canto was in one scene.  At the end of the ep: "This season is dedicated to our beloved friend ADAN CANTO."

Thurs. Mar. 7, 2024 Alert: Missing Persons Unit: The season 2 premiere was average.  I don't really like this show.  I will record the season and watch this in the summer time when there aren't a lot of scripted dramas to watch.

Sat. Feb. 24, 2024 Forest and Terrace Heights Clothing Swap: I went there at 10:30 am and it was pretty busy.

1. This thin black blazer that I could wear at job interviews.

2. A black EMSA Premier Adidas track jacket.  Edmonton Minor Soccer Association.

3. A brown Eddie Bauer t-shirt.

4. A light blue sweatshirt with the words:

Brunch.

Nap.

Repeat.

5. A black NE t-shirt.  On the back it says:

 "North End Bar & Grill

Hermosa Beach

California"

6. A light blue Banana Republic shirt.

7. A baby blue Running Room t- shirt "Run for Women."

My opinion: The last 3 things, if I don't like that much, then I can wear for lounge wear at home.  I don't buy lounge wear, because I can wear old clothes at home.

I hardly ever buy things to own like clothes, because my sister buys them.  She wears them and doesn't like them after awhile and gives them to me and mom.

Sun. Feb. 25, 2024: Today is the last day of the swap.  Trevor was volunteering there.  Most of things were picked over.

1. A pair of black dress pants from Le Chateau.  It's kind of big, but I can wear this at home.

2. A pair of black dress pants from Dynamite.  They fit.  I'm always wearing these kind of pants.

3. A black blazer from Garage.  I can wear this to a job interview.

4. A thin black blazer from Suzy Shier.  It's tighter.  I can wear this to a job interview.

5. A thin black denim shirt.

6. A black long sleeved t-shirt from Northern Reflections.

7. A black t-shirt from Dynamite.

8. A grey v- neck t-shirt from Arsenic.

9. A green t-shirt from Permaculture: a revolution disguised as a garden.
Permaculture Edmonton Guild.

"The Edmonton Permaculture Guild supports a growing community of individuals and groups who are interested in developing and nurturing sustainability, local food initiatives, and resilient communities by producing educational and social events, enabling these projects to come to fruition and flourish; providing additional opportunities for the exchange of ideas and information."

10. There's also this small canvas that was half- painted.

All the leftovers will be donated to the Terra Centre and other charities:

Redeemers Food Bank: I found this while I was looking for a job:

Mon. Feb. 26, 2023 Winter: Yesterday it snowed like 7 inches.  I shoveled the sidewalk and front walkway for 26 min.

I guess I could have done some shoveling yesterday, but I washed the lunch and dinner dishes, and did the laundry and hung out all the free clothes I got.

I shoveled one side of the driveway for 20 min.

I didn't sleep very well the night before because I woke up in the middle of the night and can't back to sleep.  I wasn't mentally alert so I did some physical work with shoveling.

Fri. Mar. 1, 2024 Board game night at Forest Terrace Heights Community League:

I played this game with Chris and Luann.  I liked this.

Carcassonne is a tile-placement game in which the players draw and place a tile with a piece of southern French landscape on it. The tile might feature a city, a road, a cloister, grassland or some combination thereof, and it must be placed adjacent to tiles that have already been played, in such a way that cities are connected to cities, roads to roads, etcetera. Having placed a tile, the player can then decide to place one of their meeples on one of the areas on it: on the city as a knight, on the road as a robber, on a cloister as a monk, or on the grass as a farmer. When that area is complete, that meeple scores points for its owner.

During a game of Carcassonne, players are faced with decisions like: "Is it really worth putting my last meeple there?" or "Should I use this tile to expand my city, or should I place it near my opponent instead, giving him a hard time to complete their project and score points?" Since players place only one tile and have the option to place one meeple on it, turns proceed quickly even if it is a game full of options and possibilities.

This site is more accurate:

I also played this with Luann, Trevor, Nathan, and Dominic.  I like this:

Developer Stefan Brück at alea describes Las Vegas as "an easy, dice-rolling, fun-and-luck game with a lot of interaction and 'schadenfreude'". Who doesn't love schadenfreude? (Well, other than those being schadened, I suppose...)

In more detail, Las Vegas includes six cardboard casino mats, one for each side of a normal six-sided die. For each mat, players draw money cards until at least $50k is showing, but the amount may end up being a lot more, making that casino more desirable.

Each player has eight dice of a different color, which they take turns rolling. When you roll your dice, you can choose to place them on the relevant casino cards; for example, a die showing a 1 will be placed on the casino mat marked "1". You must place all dice of one number on one casino in your turn. All players take turns doing this until all the dice have been used. Finally, the player with the most dice on each casino card takes the money associated with it. In case of a tie, the next non-tied player takes the highest-valued money card at that casino.

Las Vegas rates a 1 out of 10 on alea's difficulty scale.

Trevor, Angela and her husband, Dominic, and Nathan played this:

With elegantly simple gameplay, Ticket to Ride can be learned in under 15 minutes. Players collect cards of various types of train cars they then use to claim railway routes in North America. The longer the routes, the more points they earn. Additional points come to those who fulfill Destination Tickets – goal cards that connect distant cities; and to the player who builds the longest continuous route.

"The rules are simple enough to write on a train ticket – each turn you either draw more cards, claim a route, or get additional Destination Tickets," says Ticket to Ride author, Alan R. Moon. "The tension comes from being forced to balance greed – adding more cards to your hand, and fear – losing a critical route to a competitor."

Ticket to Ride continues in the tradition of Days of Wonder's big format board games featuring high-quality illustrations and components including: an oversize board map of North America, 225 custom-molded train cars, 144 illustrated cards, and wooden scoring markers.

Since its introduction and numerous subsequent awards, Ticket to Ride has become the BoardGameGeek epitome of a "gateway game" -- simple enough to be taught in a few minutes, and with enough action and tension to keep new players involved and in the game for the duration.

Part of the Ticket to Ride series.

Does anyone have 2 night stands?: That you're willing to sell for cheap or give to me?

I want it with 2 drawers and looks like this:
