"Avril Lavigne Says She 'Tried to Resist' Falling in Love with Mod Sun: 'The Most I've Ever Tried'"/ 'I Followed My Heart'

Dec. 1, 2021 "Avril Lavigne Says She 'Tried to Resist' Falling in Love with Mod Sun: 'The Most I've Ever Tried'": Today I found this article by Rachel DeSantis on Yahoo news:

Avril Lavigne is in love — but getting to that point was certainly, well, complicated.

The pop-punk queen, 37, is happy in her relationship with fellow musician Mod Sun, 34, but almost didn't allow herself to fall for him as they worked in the studio on her forthcoming album, she told Nylon in a new interview.

"I tried to resist it, hard," she said. "The most I've ever tried to."

Lavigne even quipped that stumbling upon romance as she made music about her broken heart was "hilarious."

"I wrote that one on my own," she told Nylon of one particularly emotional song. "It was like, 'OK, don't tell me you love me unless you mean it. Because I don't want to get f—d up again."

The "Complicated" singer, who was previously married to Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger and Sum 41 rocker Deryck Whibley, said that before meeting Mod Sun, she'd had her heart broken numerous times, and had all but sworn off romance after a particularly bad breakup.

"Honestly, I really believed in love. And then I went through the wringer with it," she said. "Then I finally got back up on my feet and had a relationship just to get f—d over again. I was just like, 'I can't believe that I've been hurt or mistreated by this many people. I need a break from relationships."

She added, "I feel like I've had the wind knocked out of me over and over. I'm f—ing sick of it. I need to take care of me right now.' So I bought a house, and I wasn't waiting for a guy to start a future with. I was like, 'I'm doing this for me now. I'm the only person, I'm the only one I can rely on.'"

Soon, however, she met the rapper and producer (born Derek Smith) and they teamed up for the track "Flames" for his album Internet Killed the Rockstar. Lavigne said in April that from the first day in the studio together, they'd "had an immediate connection."

By February, they'd been spotted on a dinner date in West Hollywood, and in September, they made their red carpet debut as a couple at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards.

Later that month, Mod Sun wished the singer a happy birthday on Instagram in a heartfelt post that called her his soulmate and "the love of my life."

"Happy birthday to my soulmate, the love of my life, my favorite person in the world…..my angel. To the most radiant + graceful woman I've ever laid eyes on, you have made my dreams come true in so many ways," he captioned the post. "You are my calm in the chaos + my shelter from the storm. You are elegance + rock n roll wrapped up in one body."

Lavigne later responded to his post, and commented "The sweetest most beautiful words ever. So glad I get to spend it with you my sunshine. 'I la la la la la la la la la love you' 💚💖."

After several years out of the spotlight, the Canadian singer is gearing up for the release of her seventh studio album, and most recently released the single "Bite Me" with Travis Barker.

She told Nylon that while the forthcoming record will include songs about heartbreak and breakups, it's, for the most part, "light and happy."

"It's also anthemic, and it's powerful, and it has a positive message for people to stand up for yourself, to have self-worth," she said. "[It's the album] I've wanted to make for my whole career."

My opinion: This proves celebrities' are regular people who deal with relationship issues.

Feb. 23, 2022 "Avril Lavigne Was on a 'Break from Men' Before She Met Boyfriend Mod Sun: 'I Followed My Heart'": Today I found this article by Jeff Nelson on Yahoo news:

Avril Lavigne wasn't looking for love when she met her boyfriend, Mod Sun.

In the new issue of PEOPLE, the pop-punk princess, 37, reveals that after a particularly bad breakup, she swore off relationships in 2020.

"I was like, 'I need a break from men,'" the "Bite Me" singer says, adding with a laugh: "Then two days later that all went out the window!"

The Grammy-nominated singer met rocker Mod (real name: Derek Smith) during a songwriting session, sparks flew, and they began dating "immediately," she says. "I just followed my heart."

Adds Lavigne: "I was getting out of a big relationship, and for the first time in my life, I thought I should probably be single. I got together with [Mod Sun] to write a song. We just clicked. I was like, 'Should you be doing this?' It was fun and exciting, and I decided, 'F--- it. Life's short.' I'm a Libra. I love love."

Since getting together, the pair — who first sparked dating rumors in February 2021 — have been frequent collaborative partners. Lavigne was featured on Mod's 2021 single "Flames," and he co-wrote and co-produced several tracks on her new album, Love Sux, which drops Friday.

"We bonded over music," Lavigne says.

Indeed, she had set out to record a breakup album before falling for Mod. Her experience with heartache and her new romance inspired her seventh album, for which she teamed up with friends like Machine Gun Kelly and Travis Barker, who also happens to be her new label head on DTA Records.

"He played on [my album] The Best Damn Thing. That was 15 years ago, so it was great to reconnect with him for this record," Lavigne says of working with Barker. "It's been good working with him because he's an artist — having the president of my label being an artist, it kind of makes it easier and more fun because he just understands. He gets it; it's chill. It's just been this wonderful party."

After taking a more contemplative turn on her last album, 2019's Head Above Water, Lavigne is rocking on with Love Sux, a return to the punk roots of her debut album Let Go, which was released 20 years ago in June.

"I can't believe it's been 20 years. My first album's so special to me. We're going to celebrate it all year. I'll probably play more songs from that album on tour," Lavigne says of the beloved LP.

Lavigne — and Let Go — had quite the impact on listeners and continues to this day. The next generation of pop-punk stars, including Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish and Willow Smith, have cited Lavigne as an inspiration for their careers.

"They're really talented songwriters, and it's been cool for me to meet these girls," Lavigne says. "The 17-year-old me could never have imagined I'd be in this position where people tell me that my music's had an influence on them."

Apr. 7, 2022 "Avril Lavigne Gets Engaged to Mod Sun in Paris: 'The Day We Met I Knew You Were the One'": Today I found this article by Jeff Nelson and Rachel DeSantis on People:

He was a boy, she was a girl — and they're going to get married!

Avril Lavigne got engaged to fellow pop-punk rocker Mod Sun on March 27 in Paris, the couple announced on Instagram Thursday.

"It was the most perfect, romantic proposal I could ever ask for. We were in Paris on a boat in the Seine River. We had a violin player, champagne and roses. It felt like time stood still, and it was just the two of us in the moment," Lavigne, 37, tells PEOPLE exclusively of the proposal.

Mod, 35, popped the question with a custom-designed, heart-shaped ring set in a royal setting with little hearts from XIV Karats from Beverly Hills.

"It has the words 'Hi Icon' engraved in it, which were the first words he ever said to me. And it has Mod + Avril on the inside," Lavigne says. "He knew from the very beginning I wanted a heart shaped diamond because on the day we met, we had matching heart shaped paved rings on. We've worn them every day since, so its only fitting to have a heart-shaped engagement ring. I love it so much."

"I knew we had a very strong unstoppable connection from the first week of writing and working together in the studio. Immediately," says Lavigne, who met Mod while working on her latest album, Love Sux. "He made every day better. It was like I had known him forever. As time went on, things kept getting better, and it felt incredibly natural."

Now the pop-punk power couple can't wait to plan their life together.

"I look forward to having fun, creating, working together, touring together, growing together," Lavigne adds. "It feels good to have someone who can help celebrate the good times, hold you through the tough ones, and be there for all the moments in between."

"The day we met I knew you were the one. Together forever til our days are done. I had a dream where I proposed in paris. I pulled out a ring + asked you to wear it. I was on one knee as I looked in your eyes. You're too beautiful for my words to describe. I grabbed your hand + took one last breath…I said "will you marry me?" + she said 'yes,'" Mod Sun captioned a series of engagement photos. "I love you Avril ❤️"
