Professional Organizers in Canada (Part 1)

Sept. 3, 2018 Professional Organizers in Canada: I'm researching a career to be a professional organizer.
What is POC?
Professional Organizers in Canada (POC) is the national association that represents professional organizers across the country. We provide a supportive environment for our members to share ideas, network and exchange referrals.
Our Mission and Vision: Providing Visibility, Credibility, and Connection.
Our Members: POC members are organizing professionals from all sectors of the industry, including residential and office organizers, time management and goal setting professionals, estate organizing experts and many, many more.
Our Reach: POC currently represents over 600 members in more than 14 chapters across Canada.

How We Help

Ultimately, our goal is to provide professional organizers with credibility, community and connections. To do this POC offers a variety of programs for members, the general public and the media.
  • Find an Organizer: Our online directory is a one-stop resource to help you research and connect with professional organizers.
  • FAQs: Our FAQ section answers common questions people have about getting organized and professional organizers. It includes information on how to navigate our website to find the information members need.
  • Training Programs: Available to POC members, our training programs help members learn how to become a professional organizer, manage their business and continue their education to further enhance their skills.
  • Annual Conference: Our conference rotates between major cities across Canada, offering a wide variety of training opportunities as well as the chance to connect with other professional organizers.
  • Business Resources: Designed to help our members manage their businesses, these resources are useful tools and address common business challenges professional organizers may encounter.
  • Media Centre: For journalists and online content producers, we have media releases covering a wide range of organizing topics. We also welcome media inquiries.
POC Training Programs:
Education and training programs play a vital role in assisting members to launch and develop their careers as professional organizers.

The following series of programs are designed for existing organizers as well as people interested in becoming a professional organizer. Click on the headings below for more information on each course.

The Trained Professional Organizer Program

The Trained Professional Organizer Program is a rewarding learning experience led by professional organizers and subject matter experts. Courses cover residential and business organizing, safety, basic marketing, assessments, working with children and seniors, as well as many other topics.
By completing 12 classes - 10 core classes and any 2 specialty classes - POC members are eligible to write the Trained Professional Organizer Exam. Successful candidates receive a certificate as a graduate of the program and may identify themselves as a POC Trained Professional Organizer. Please note that completion of the 12 classes is mandatory in order to write the exam.

POC members who have been a member for a minimum of the past 3 consecutive years can challenge the exam. The POC Trained Professional Organizer program is a training program, not an accreditation program, and as such does not entitle the organizer to use words such as certified, endorsed, authorized, accredited, or qualified Professional Organizer in their marketing material, or the initials TPO following their name.
Exams are offered twice per year; in the spring hosted by local chapters and in the autumn at the Annual Conference.

Congratulations to those who passed the TPO exam in Fall 2017!
