The Vertex Fighter actors/ Heartland/ payday loans

Jan. 3 The Vertex Fighter actors:

Vada Studios: I found this ad on Vue Weekly. Vada Studios is Vancouver Academy of the Dramatic Arts. I guess I can go there if I'm looking for actors.

J Mack Slaughter Jr.: This has been months ago, but I wrote about him because he was on the old TV sitcom called Like Family. It was on the WB about a single white mom and her teen son (Slaughter) and move in with a black couple, with their teen daughter and kid son, with a grandpa.

I added him on Facebook and he confirmed me as his friend. I wished him a happy birthday on his birthday Dec. 28, and he liked my wall post. lol. He's now in medical school, and not acting. However, I would still like to see him in The Vertex Fighter.

Blake McGrath: I have also written a lot about this dancer/ So You Think You Can Dance Canada judge. I do see him in The Vertex Fighter. I can see him as a fighter because he is athletic.

Rejects: I found my notes from my job interview that I did 2 months ago. It was for a company in the industrial neighborhood. The interview was okay, but it seemed like a really hard and challenging position.

I did an interview for a medical office assistant position last week. They should have called by now for training. I did call them today to ask about it, and I left a message.

Scrubs: From that interview, I did learn that you have to wear scrubs. If you want to buy some, you can go to Wal-Mart, Zellers, and Mark's Work Wearhouse. I didn't know they sell them there.

Jan. 4 Producers: Here's something I haven't done in about a month. I emailed those TV producers back and asked if they read The Vertex Fighter script yet. I was busy with my work and looking for office job, that I haven't been emailing them.

Job cycles: This is an article about job cycles for different industries. In the 2nd quarter, they hire for hospitality and tourism for the summer. In the 4th quarter, holiday retail are hiring.

Misleads: Today I got a call on my cellphone. I looked it up, but didn't find who it is. I called it and it's actually from an Energy Company #1. The guy said it's part of Energy Company #2. It's a customer service position. I remember in 2010, I did an interview for EC#2, and it's selling energy door-to-door. So I turned down EC#1.

The second mislead is an email I got. The position in the ad was "personal assistant." I got info that it's really a mystery shopper position. You go to the store, buy something, and you get to keep the item you bought.

This was about a month ago, and I found it in my email. I saw the job ad in 24 News about being an accounting representative. It said this:

"Your duties as the Payment Officer / Book Keeper is to collect payments from our numerous customers within your region, process the payments, deduct 10% of the amount issued to you as your personal bonus and you transfer the rest of the funds to our main account officer whose information will be provided to you in due time."

Perspective: It's like I am so sick of looking for an office job. But I can't stop looking for it, and writing about it. It's this habit that's instilled in me. Yeah, but it's a good work habit and it's productive, because it will lead to me making more money.

I also learn more about companies, and jobs. I get to go all around Edmonton and meet these people when I do interviews.

Yeah, well at least it's better than the days when I used to be addicted to Dr. Phil back in 2006. I hate the TV show, I can't stop watching it, and getting angry at it, and writing about it. However, I managed to quit.

Drug article: Jasmine Hall sent this through my blog: "10 Professors Who Were Caught Dealing Drugs." I had to read it. I don't know, I thought it would be kind of funny where college professors who are supposed to be good, are selling drugs. When I read the article, it wasn't funny.

At #5, Philip Alan Barker who taught at the University of Calgary and the Alberta Children's Hospital was caught selling crack cocaine to an undercover cop.

#6 is Mr. Cha and he's like the lead character in the TV show Breaking Bad. It's about a chemistry teacher who cooks up drugs.

Heartland: I saw an ep a couple months ago and it reminded me of my job search. It turns out the married couple Lou and Peter went for the same job, and Lou got hired. Lou didn't know Peter went for the same position too.

Peter mentioned about job-sharing when Lou was kind of on the fence about the position. She did just have a baby and wanted to spend time with her daughter. It also kind of reminded me of Desperate Housewives where the married couple Lynette and Tom worked for the same office. Later they worked together again when they opened a pizzeria.

Negotiation: In the ep, they did say this line: "The first rule of negotiation is if you don't ask, you don't get."

Work and friends: My friend started working at my restaurant a couple of weeks ago. I then realized we had run in the same work places before. I worked at Call Centre #2 in 2006 for 5 months. Then I quit to go to school full-time and my friend then got hired there. In 2010, she got hired at Call Centre #5, and I then got hired shortly after her. I lasted for 2 days before I was dismissed for not getting enough money donated to the charity. She lasted for 3 days and was dismissed for the same thing.

We went and did the same interview at that law firm in 2011.

Business ethics: I was thinking about The Sausage Factory again where Gilby lets teenage boys rent out porn tapes. That is unethical.

Payday loans: Back in 2008 when I was applying to banks, I asked my dad if I could apply to Money Mart and those payday loans places. He said they're not real banks, so I didn't apply.

Last month, I found a job ad where you can work at a payday loan place and get $15/hr to be an administrative assistant. I asked my dad about it, and he said they're like loan sharks. They do charge a lot of interest.

Example: I got this manual "Stretch Your Dollars: budgeting basics" by Money Mentors. I got this at a U of A job fair. Here's an example (paraphrase):

"Joe didn't have the money, but knew he could get it at a quick cash store. His next paycheck is $999 so he qualified for a $299 advance. The transaction fee, the interest, it cost him $332.49 to have this money for 13 days until he got his next paycheck. He repaid the money by check rather than cash. That cost him an additional $28.17. Joe paid $360.66 to have $299 for 13 days."
