Jun. 29, 2022: It's the summer time, and there aren't a lot of scripted dramas to watch. I will be writing about some TV shows.
Mid- season 2019 TV shows:
Whiskey Cavalier:
"An FBI agent and his new partner, a CIA operative, embark on missions to save the world, but have to put up with each other first."
Whiskey Cavalier (TV Series 2019) - IMDb
Pros:
1. The cast:
Scott Foley as Will Chase and he's the FBI agent. You may have seen him in Felicity.
Lauren Cohan- as Frankie Trowbridge as the CIA agent. She's from The Walking Dead.
Ana Ortiz- as Susan and FBI.
Tyler James Williams- as Edgar. he is the hacker/ techie of the group. He was Chris in Everybody Hates Chris.
Josh Hopkins- as Ray Prince in the FBI. I thought he looked familiar, and after a few episodes I remembered he was in the Quantico 1st season.
Vir Das- as Jai and CIA.
2. The action scenes are really good. The fight scenes that are carried out mainly by Will and Frankie.
There are car chases and shoot outs.
It's really fast- paced.
3. The comedy. This show is fun to watch.
On the episode "College Confidential" and Edgar has to watch his roommate/ asset. The asset gets kidnapped and Edgar has to create a distraction.
Edgar: We didn't get a chance to say goodbye yet.
He lights up a flare and starts singing badly: "I will remember you. Will you remember me?"
"I Will Remember You" by Sarah McLachlan.
4. The dialogue. I will put this in my inspirational quotes:
Will: We accept the love we deserve. I have the feelings. My feelings don't have me."
5. There is good writing with lots of surprises like in the pilot. I didn't predict that Frankie was going to get shot or that there was a microchip in Edgar's tooth.
There is a lot of traveling on this show.
6. Ethnic diversity.
Cons: None.
Comparisons: This show reminds me of other fun crime comedy shows like Castle and Deception (2018).
My opinion: The show was good. I watched the whole 1st season. It got cancelled. I hope there are more comedy crime action shows like this.
Proven Innocent:
"A legal team takes on cases involving wrongful convictions."
Proven Innocent (TV Series 2019) - IMDb
Pros:
1. Rachelle Lefevre- as Madeline Scott, where she and her brother are wrongfully convicted of murdering her friend Rosemary.
Russel Hornsby- as Ezekial 'Easy' Bourdreau who is the lawyer and mentor for Madeline.
Vincent Kartheiser- as Bodie who is the investigator at the firm. He was Connor on Angel.
Nikki M. James- as Violet who does a podcast on the cases.
Riley Smith- as Levi Scott, Madeline's brother. He's now on Nancy Drew.
Kelsey Grammar- as Gore Bellows who prosecuted Madeline and Levi to jail.
2. There is good writing. I like the episode "The Struggle for Stonewall" because it's about a transwoman who is wrongfully convicted for killing her trans friend. They talk about race, gender, and sexual orientation.
Easy: You can hide who you love, but not your skin color.
40% of trans people commit suicide.
There is a good mystery of important cases and problems. This is smart.
There is the big mystery of who killed Rosemary?
Spoiler alert: It was this cult leader who killed Rosemary. After that, Gore kills the Cult Leader by pushing him off cliff.
3. Ethnic diversity.
My opinion: I saw the Episodes 1, 2, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13. I missed the other episodes because my DVR had to be reset and my recordings got deleted.
Overall, I would say the show was average. I don't really like law dramas.
Jun. 30, 2022 The Passage: This is based on the books by Justin Cronin. I never read the books.
"When a botched U.S. government experiment turns a group of death row inmates into highly infectious vampires, an orphan girl might be the only person able to stop the ensuing crisis."
The Passage (TV Series 2019) - IMDb
Pros:
1. The cast:
Mark- Paul Gosselaar- who is Brad Wolgast and is hired to protect Amy. He also has to deal with the loss of his own daughter after she got shot during an armed robbery.
Saniyya Sidney- who plays Amy Bellafonte.
Emmanuelle Chriqui- who plays Dr. Lila Kyle and Brad's wife.
2. There is good writing: I like the story premise. There is a lot going on in the show with the action, the sci-fi, and the relationships between the characters.
I really liked watching it.
3. The action.
4. There is good production value.
5. Ethnic diversity.
Cons: None.
My opinion: The show was good. I was able to watch the last 5 episodes because I didn't know it was on. I hope to get watch the 1st 5 episodes.
Spring 2019 TV shows:
Jul. 1, 2022 The Fix:
"An L.A. prosecutor moves to Washington after losing a high-profile double murder case, but when the killer strikes again, she returns to seek justice under her own terms."
The Fix (TV Series 2019) - IMDb
Pros:
1. The cast:
Robin Tunney- as Maya Travis, the LA prosecutor. She was on The Mentalist.
Adewale Akinnuoye- Agbaie- as Sevvy Johnson who is a famous actor. He was accused of murdering his wife Cassandra and friend Nancy. He was proven not guilty. He was on the TV show Ten Days in the Valley.
Merrin Dunney- as CJ, a worker, a good guy. She was on Alias.
Adam Reyner as Matthew Collier as a good guy.
Breckin Meyer- as Alan Weist, a good guy.
Marc Blucas- Maya's boyfriend. He was Riley on Buffy.
Alex Saxon- as Sevvy's stepson Gabe. He's now on Nancy Drew.
Taylor Kalupa as Jessica.
Scott Cohen- as Ezra Wolf, Sevvy's lawyer.
Mouzam Makkar- as Loni. She was on The Exorcist season 1.
2. Good writing: There is a lot of drama, conflict, and tension. Sevvy was proven not guilty in 2 murders. 8 years later, he is being accused of killing his girlfriend Jessica.
He isn't a very successful actor after the trial, but he still has a lot of money saved. He has an adult daughter Star, a step son Gabe (Cassandra's son), and an 8 yr old daughter.
A lot of people think Sevvy killed Cassandra and Nancy.
There are a lot of complications.
The lawyer Wolf has debt to pay so he is motivated to win and make money.
Loni is a good guy, but she helped Wolf.
There is evidence that Jessica was in an abusive relationship with Sevvy.
Spoiler alert: The stepson Gabe turns 21 and able to access what his mom Cassandra gave him. There was a journal that details Sevvy's abuse.
Gabe shows journal to Jessica and she is abused by Sevvy.
They decided to create videos where Jess says she was abused.
Then Jessica says she doesn't want to go through with it and give the evidence to police, so Gabe and Jessica argue about it. Gabe grabs a club bell and hits her head with it and she dies.
Gabe puts a towel that Sevvy used to put his DNA on Jessica's things.
Sevvy admits he killed Gabe's mom Cassandra and friend Nancy to Maya. He will go to jail for Jessica's murder.
3. Ethnic diversity.
Cons: None.
My opinion: This first season was good with all the mystery and writing. I didn't predict the ending or the killer at all.
The Enemy Within:
"FBI agent Will Keaton enlists the most notorious traitor in American history to help catch a spy."
The Enemy Within (TV Series 2019) - IMDb
1. The cast:
Jennifer Carpenter- as Erica Shepherd who was the CIA Deputy Director of Operations. She is from the TV show Dexter.
She is walking and notices people are watching her. The tension is set. She stops and is arrested for espionage.
Morris Chestnut- as Will Keaton, FBI agent.
Raza Jaffrey- as Daniel Zain, FBI agent.
Kelli Garner- as Kate Ryan, FBI agent.
Coral Pena- as Anna Cruz, FBI agent.
Lev Gorn- as the terrorist Mikhail Tal.
2. Good writing: There is lots of drama, conflict, and tension. Erica gave up 4 agent's names and they were all killed. One of them is Keaton's fiance. Now they're forced to work together.
Erica gave up the agent's names because Tal threatened to kill her daughter.
Erica: I didn't tell my daughter Hannah so she won't know she's responsible for the deaths of 4 people. Tal is out there, and my daughter isn't safe.
Spoiler alert: There is a good plot twist that Anna who was kidnapped, is actually a bad guy/ mole.
3. There is some good action like car chases.
4. Ethnic diversity.
Cons:
1. This is a mild con. Spoiler alert: Anna is the bad guy/ mole and is revealed at the end of the pilot. I thought it was kind of too soon.
However, there is still drama, conflict, and tension to see if the good guys are able to figure out Anna is the mole before she does too much damage.
My opinion: The first season was average. This was solid.
The Village:
"Residents of a unique apartment building in Greenwich Village build a bonded family of friends and neighbors."
The Village (TV Series 2019) - IMDb
Pros:
1. The cast:
Moran Atias- as Ava, a Muslim woman who is raising her son. She faces deportation.
Michaela McManus- as Sarah. She is a single mom and raises her teen daughter Katie. She was a lawyer on Law and Order: SVU.
Grace Van Dien- as Katie and got pregnant as a teen.
Warren Christie- as Nick and he and Sarah are the parents to Katie, but Katie doesn't know he's her dad. He is adjusting life outside of the army and he lost his leg.
Lorraine Toussiant- as Patricia and she is dealing with cancer. She was on Into the Badlands.
Daran Kagasoff- as Gabe. He is going to law school and living with his grandpa Enzo.
Dominic Chianese- as Enzo and he falls in love with an old woman.
Jerod Haynes- as Ben who's a cop, and falls in in love with Ava.
2. Good writing: There is are all these different kind of characters and they all live and help out each other. It's happy and heartwarming to watch.
3. Ethnic diveristy.
Cons: None.
My opinion: The first season was average.
Jul. 2, 2022 Summer TV: This summer there is In the Dark (season 4) and Departure (season 2) that is on broadcast TV. Riverdale isn't a summer TV show, but they're airing a few episodes in July.
This is where all the reality shows, talent shows, and game shows air.
This is the time for me to watch all my DVR recordings of fall, mid-season, and spring shows. I usually watch 1 hr of TV a day.
Gratitude: Let's write about all the TV shows I had already watched and liked.
This week's theme is about TV and movies:
"In Colossal, a different kind of monster calls"/ "Colossal undertaking"
"'The Simpsons' first season: comedy or tragedy?"/ "'The Simpsons' makes history with first deaf voice actor and use of American Sign Language"
My week:
Fri. Jul. 1, 2022 Friends: Yesterday, I called some friends and they were busy. Today I tried again and was able to get a hold of Dan L. and we talked for 22 min. He said he saw the Top Gun: Maverick movie and he loved it. You feel like you're in the plane with the characters.
Sat. Jul. 2, 2022 Table Topics Daily: There were 4 of us. We talked about music. There was Y who is an East Indian woman who likes 70s and 80s music. She was in her 50s, but she looks younger. Then I learned that she grew up listening to this music and has memories of when she heard that song.
I and I'm sure a lot of people do too.
Sun. Jul. 3, 2022: There was one other person R who's Australian, and we chatted.
Mon. Jul. 4, 2022 Alberta Networking Master Mind Group: I attended this online Meetup and there were like 20 people there:

Think and Grow Rich was the first book to boldly ask, "What makes a winner?" The man who asked and listened for the answer, Napoleon Hill, is now counted in the top ranks of the world's winners himself.
The most famous of all teachers of success spent "a fortune and the better part of a lifetime of effort" to produce the "Law of Success" philosophy that forms the basis of his books and that is so powerfully summarized in this one.
“There’s something really powerful about groups and shared experiences. People might be skeptical about their ability to change if they’re by themselves, but a group will convince them to suspend disbelief. A community creates belief.” — Charles Duhigg
Looking forward to meeting with you,
Dave and Doug.

"Keanu Reeves: Heartwarming interaction between John Wick star and young child goes viral": Today I found this article by Louis Chilton on Yahoo news:
Keanu Reeves’s heartwarming interaction with a young child at an airport has gone viral on social media.
The Matrix star was spotted on a flight from London to New York, having apparently been in the country to film a documentary.
After arriving at his destination, Reeves was approached by a young boy, who then proceeded to pepper the actor with a “series of rapid-fire questions”.
The encounter was described by TV producer Andrew Kimmel in a tweet thread that quickly went viral.
“Keanu Reeves was on my flight from London to NYC today,” he revealed. “A young boy asked for an autograph at baggage & then began to fire off a series of rapid-fire questions. Keanu happily responded to every single one…
“Kid: Why were you in London? KR: Filming a documentary. Kid: I saw online you were at the Grand Prix (pronouncing the x) KR: Yes, the Grand Prix (in a French accent, without correcting him). F1! Race cars! Kid: Do you drive? KR: Not F1, but I like riding motorcycles.”
Eventually, the child started “running out of questions”, prompting Reeves to begin affectionately “grilling him”, asking him questions such as: “Why were you in Europe?” “What galleries did you go to in Paris?” and “What was your favourite?”
“The man could not have been nicer, especially after an international flight,” added Kimmel. “I thought I’d share this because the dude is a class act and little moments like this can make such a big difference in people’s lives. We need more Keanus!”
In recent years, Reeves has become renowned for his benevolent off-screen persona.
Back in 2021, he was praised for gifting four of his John Wick: Chapter 4 stuntmen personalised Rolex watches.
To mark the end of the movie shoot, he had the items engraved with the message: “The John Wick Five. Thank you. Keanu. JW4. 2021”
Reeves’s reaction to being described as the “nicest man in Hollywood” went viral online last year.

Jul. 7, 2022 "Canada's jobs market is setting records. So why are people talking about a recession?": Today I found this article by Peter Armstrong on CBC news:
Canada's unemployment rate has never been this low. Employers are adding jobs and hiring what few workers haven't already been gobbled up. GDP growth in Canada is also better than any other G7 country.
Yet the economic narrative in this country is dominated by doom and gloom.
In fact, results from Google Trends show that searches for the word "recession" have dramatically risen in Canada, even while the economy continues to churn out growth.
"I think it is a little bit overblown," said Pedro Antunes, chief economist at the Conference Board of Canada. "I think, obviously, the bad news tends to get more traction in the discussion out there."
But, he says, the economy is in really good shape.
In fact, Canada's economy is benefiting from some of the very things that worry consumers — even as it pinches your pocketbook.
High global oil prices are pushing up your cost at the pumps, but it's acting as a boost to Canadian GDP. Sky-high food prices mean you're paying significantly more at the grocery store, but they're driving up the revenue of Canada's enormous agriculture industry.
Still, fear and uncertainty around fast-rising inflation is driving negativity, said Antunes, noting that sentiment matters, because negative expectations can quickly become "self-fulfilling prophecies."
"If enough people believe the economy is going to tank, and enough people believe equity markets are going to tank, and enough people believe the housing market [is going to tank], then they will," he said.
Canada's jobs market is setting records. So why are people talking about a recession? | CBC News
My opinion: You need to stay positive.
