No Tomorrow/ Emerald City/ Caught/ Burden of Truth

Dec. 25, 2018 No Tomorrow: This show came out fall 2016.

"Evie, a risk-averse quality-control assessor falls for free-spirited thrill seeker Xavier only to find out he lives his life that way because he believes the apocalypse is coming."

Pros:

1. The cast:

Tori Anderson as Evie.  She's good.  She later got on Caught and Blindspot.

Joshua Sasse- as Xavier.  Good.

2. Good ethnic diversity.

3. It was kind of funny in the light, fun, and inoffensive way.

4. Good dialogue.  I will put all these in my inspirational quotes:

Amy (to Evie): Don't be one of those women defined by a quest to find a guy. It's boring.

Mom (to Evie): He loves you just the way you are.

Xavier: Stop doing all the things we feel obligated to do, and start doing things we want to do.

Xavier: My Apoca- list.  Every fantasy I ever had, every regret I want to fix, every wrong I want to right, every last thing I want to do, before things go kaput.

Evie (to Xavier): I'm the one who decides how to live my life.  Not you.

Xavier: Count the days or make the days count.

Cons: None.

My opinion: The pilot was average, and then I never watched it again.

Emerald City: This show came out Jan. 2017.  I saw the first 4 episodes.  Then I recorded it all.  Then my DVR was upgraded, and all my shows got deleted.  I was then able to watch the last 2 eps of the season from Telus on Demand before it expired.

Here's another Wizard of Oz update.  Does anyone remember the 2007 mini-series Tin Man?  That was good.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0910812/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

"A modern reimagining of the stories that led to 'The Wizard of Oz'."

Pros:

1. The cast is good.

Adria Arjona as Dorothy.  She looks and sounds like Jessica Alba.  Besides looking like Alba, I will say she is good in this role.

Oliver Jackson- Cohen as the scarecrow Lucas.  I recognized him in the 2nd scene.  He was Jonathan Harker on the 2013 TV show Dracula.  He is handsome and a good actor.

The above 2 travel together.

Gerran Howell as Jack/ Tin Man is average.

Jordan Loughran as Tip is average.

Vincent D' Onofrio is the Wizard.  I didn't even recognize him from Law and Order.

Ana Ulara is good as the bad witch from the West.

2. Good ethnic diversity.

This show manages to put a transgender storyline here.

3. There is great cinematography.  It is beautifully shot.  A well-made production.

4. I really like the world they made.  It starts off with the usual of Dorothy in Kansas and getting into a storm.  It was well-written and creative.

Cons: None.

My opinion: I really like the show.

Feb. 1, 2019 Caught: This is a TV mini-series that came out in Feb. 2018.

"David Slaney escapes from prison tries to hook up with his partner for one more drug deal and while being hunted by police. Based on the novel by Lisa Moore."

Pros:

1. The cast.

Eric Johnson- my favorite Edmonton actor who I will watch nearly everything he is in.  He plays Brian, David's partner in crime.

Allan Hawco- he is the lead David, but also the lead on Republic of Doyle.

Tori Anderson- as Ada who helps in the deal.  She is from No Tomorrow.

Enuka Okuma- as the cop KC.  She was from Rookie Blue.

Charlotte Sullivan- as Jennifer, David's love interest. She was from Rookie Blue.

Paul Gross- as the lead detective Patterson.

2. There is a good opening.  It's 1970s New Brunswick.  An inmate David escapes from prison.  He gets to a truck, and the truck driver helps him.

3. There is lots of drama, conflict, and tension as David is on the run from the cops.

Also Patterson and KC are trying to arrest Brian.

4. There is a good surprise ending with David and Patterson.

Cons:

1. This is a mild con for me.  I don't like shows that are set in the past like the 1970s.  It's fine to have flashbacks, but not the whole show.

My opinion: There are only 5 episodes and I watched all of it.  It was good.

Feb. 2, 2019 Burden of Truth: This show came out in Jan. 2018.

"Big city lawyer Joanna Hanley returns to her hometown to take the case of a group of girls suffering from a mysterious illness."

Pros:

1. The cast:

Kristin Kreuk- Lana Lang from Smallville is Joanna.

Peter Mooney- Nick from Rookie Blue.  He is Billy also a lawyer in the small town.  I would say he is the best part and the main reason I watch this show.

Star Slade- as Luna, and a intern for them is good.

All the other actors on this show is average.

2. There is good ethnic diversity because there are Aboriginal actors on this show.

3. There is a good premise as a group of girls are having seizures and uncontrollable ticks.  They think it's this vaccine that's causing it.  Joanna from the law firm comes back to town Millwood to find the cause and absolve her pharmacy client.

Joanna is getting the parents or at least the 18 yr old kid to sign a form, and get $50,000 for it if they don't sue.

It's got drama, conflict, and tension with this mystery.

Joanna: It doesn't mean it (vaccine) caused it.  Temporarily precedence isn't precursory, but not sufficient to condition of causation.

Dave: If your vaccine didn't cause it, why are you giving away money?

4. There is good dialogue in the pilot.

Joanna: Litigation is war.

My opinion: I agree.

In the season 2 premiere ep "Salesman, Cheats, and Liars":

Billy: They pay you for your advice, but they never want to take it.

Teddy Lavery: You don't invest in relationships, because you don't value them.

I'm going to put those 2 lines in my inspirational quotes.

5. There is a really good plot twist towards the end of the pilot.

Spoiler alert: Molly didn't get the vaccine, and she is getting these uncontrollable ticks.

This absolves the pharmacy clients because without a cause, there's no case, no payout.

However, what is causing these girls to sick?  How to help them?

Cons: None.

My opinion: I watched all the episodes.  It was mainly because of Peter Mooney.  If he wasn't in it, I would still watch it.  It's average.

Mar. 4, 2019 How much TV are you watching?: I wrote down all the pilots I watched since 2016.  Each year, I have watched about 30 pilots a year.

There is mid- season, spring season, summer, and fall season where they put new shows out.  I may end up watching 10 shows regularly each year.

I watch about 1 show a day.  Maybe 2 if I have time.  I hardly ever watch movies.

There are shows that only have 6 episodes a season like Cardinal.

There are shows that last a season and then it's over.

I'm writing about this to show that I don't watch that much TV.

Mar. 26, 2019: Burden of Truth got a 3rd season.  I went to Peter Mooney's Twitter page and he said so.

The Code: This is a spring season TV show that will premiere on Tues. Apr. 9, 2019.  It stars Luke Mitchell (Roman from Blindspot) so I will be watching it for him.

"A look at the professional and personal lives of some of the military's brightest legal minds in the courtroom, where each attorney is trained as a prosecutor, a defense lawyer, an investigator - and a Marine."

Mar. 29, 2019 A Discovery of Witches: This show comes out Sun. Apr. 7, 2019 on AMC.  I will check it out:

"Diana Bishop, historian and witch, accesses Ashmole 782 and knows she must solve its mysteries. She is offered help by the enigmatic Matthew Clairmont, but he's a vampire and witches should never trust vampires."

My week:

Mar. 24, 2019 "Young Alberta Bond fan gets the star treatment": I was going through my old articles and I found this by Michele Jarvie in the Edmonton Journal on Nov. 6, 2015:

Walker. Britton Walker.

His hero might be 007, but Britton’s number is more like 008 — as in eight years old.

The Calgary boy is flying high today, both literally and figuratively, as he travels back home after a whirlwind four days that involved all things Bond.

The young spy expert, a Grade 3 student at Royal Oak, was flown to Mexico City to meet his idol, spending one-on-one time with Daniel Craig before the première of the latest Bond flick, Spectre, on Monday.

“I thought he was amazing. He did lots of fun things with me. He taught me how to do some stunts and we made apple juice martinis,” said a starry-eyed Britton.

Sony Pictures rented a suite in a hotel so Craig and Britton and his family — dad Jeff, mom Michelle and older brother Rhys, 14, also a Bond fan — could hang out for a bit.

“I gotta say, Daniel Craig is an amazing guy. He had nothing but time for Britton,” said Jeff Walker.

The star treatment continued that afternoon as Britton took his spot on the red carpet as a “correspondent” for the Ellen DeGeneres Show. It was a real extravaganza as The Spectre première featured more than 140 costumed dancers and all the show’s stars. Britton interviewed each actor, met Sam Smith, who recorded the movie’s theme song, and even got a “smoochie,” as he calls it, from leading lady Monica Bellucci. Then Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz, Spectre’s villain, turned the tables and interviewed Britton.

“It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. They were all so nice,” said Jeff.

The family then flew to Los Angeles to tape an episode of Ellen on Wednesday, Britton’s second appearance on the show. He was a guest last year when the amiable host found out about Britton’s passion for the Bond character and his remarkable knowledge of the films.

He received some souvenirs from the trip to bring home, such as a Spectre T-shirt and some James Bond cuff links to wear with the tuxedo Ellen gave him last year. There was also one other gift that’s a secret.

“I got a gift from Daniel Craig but I can’t tell you,” said Britton. The “amazing ” present will be revealed when Ellen airs today.

While dad is a lifelong Bond fan, Britton got hooked two years ago by playing a game on his iPad that had a Bond category.

“The next thing you know he says, “Look, Dad, I’m No. 1 in Canada. Then he’s in the top 10 in the world,” says Jeff. “It’s truly amazing. Every fact, everything he’s read has stuck in his head.”

Britton has seen 20 of the 25 Bond films and his favourite is the latest. And, as suave as Sean Connery and Roger Moore were, no one holds a candle to Craig.
“He’s so cool. And he’s the best.”

Mar. 25, 2019 School grants dad's dying wish to see his daughter graduate:

A hospice patient in Tyler, Texas had one final wish: to see his daughter graduate from high school. But the dad was unsure he’d be able to hold out until the May ceremony, so the school held an emotional ‘mock’ graduation ceremony on Wednesday just for him.

Mark Patterson was diagnosed with stage-four esophageal cancer in January, and though he’d beaten the cancer once before, this time it had returned and metastasized to his lymph nodes, according to CBS 19. As his organs began to fail, Patterson was placed in hospice care.

My opinion: The daughter was adopted.  I thought it was a nice story to accommodate this family.

Mar. 26, 2019 West Edmonton mall:

1. Gymboree- closed down.
2. Bombay- closed down.
3. Quickly- it sells bubble tea.  It closed down.  I applied there in Dec. 2018.
4. Bolero- closed down.
5. Stitches Outlet- closed down.  It will be replaced by the Brick.
6. Murale- closed down.
7. The Rug store (by Stiches)- closed down.
8. Stockhomme- closed down and replaced by Shoe Warehouse.
9. X Markit 10- it sells cell phone cases opened.
10. Thomas Sabo- it moved to a smaller place.

11. Reinette Café- it will open.
12. Psuedio- the store replaced Envy.  It's like the sister store.
13. Fat Frank's- closed down.  Calle Mexico replaced it.

Gabbana: This is a restaurant on Jasper Ave, and it closed down.

Seventeen magazine: I used to read these magazines when I was a teen and in my early 20s.  I wanted to know if they still published this magazine:

Starting with their Dec/Jan 2017 issue, the magazine was to start publishing only six issues a year instead of ten, to focus on their online presence to appeal to the Generation Z market. In October 2018, it was announced that Jessica Pels would take over from Promaulayko as Editor in Chief of Cosmopolitan, and that Kristin Koch was appointed Seventeen's new Executive Director, overseeing all its content.[11] In November 2018, it was announced that Seventeen's print edition would be reduced to special stand-alone issues.[12]

Mar. 27, 2019 Restaurant closed down: I'm writing about this to get over it and move on.  I used to work at this Fast Food place for 1 month back in 2017.  It was good, but after a month I was let go because there weren't any shifts for me to work.

They were fully staffed.  One person did quit.  It was a small place.  I was let go, but the manager did say I can be their reference.  I see the place closed down now.  I call the boss M up and she said it was their choice to close because they wanted something easier to work at.  The other boss was working somewhere else.

White phone: I also have to write about this to get over it.  This old white phone that was probably been here since the 1990s has stopped working.  The receiver was dropped, and at first it worked.  But now it doesn't.  I will have to recycle it at Staples.

Mar. 28, 2019 "Job application leads Florida police to suspect in cold case"

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A job application that required a Florida man to undergo a background check and submit his fingerprints has led to a break in a 1998 slaying case.

Todd Barket, a 51-year-old from Brandon, was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Sondra Better. Better was killed at her workplace days before she was set to renew her wedding vows, according to local news outlets.

The 68-year-old had resigned from the job and only had a few days left there. She was stabbed and beaten to death, and police said DNA from the suspect was found at the scene.

"We had fingerprints, we had blood, we even had a possible description from a witness. But the person responsible for this heinous case seemed to just disappear," Acting Delray Beach Police Chief Javaro Sims said at a Wednesday news conference.

But then Barket applied for a job in December at a fire and water cleanup company that required applicants to undergo a background check and submit fingerprints. In January, those fingerprints were matched to evidence police had submitted in a national database at the time of the slaying. Barket also matched the witness' description.

When i applied for a concealed weapon permit there was another guy who also applied. 2 cops came up and walked him back into another room. 10 minutes later they walked him past me in handcuffs. Applying for a concealed weapon permit while having a active
warrant is not a good idea.

Mar. 30, 2019 Does anyone have a computer keyboard that I can have for free or cheap?: Mine has stopped working.

The highlight of the week:

Job interviews: I attended 4 this week.

Riverdale: I watched 5 episodes this week.

College: I'm researching college programs so I can become an administrative assistant.  Do you find these classes helpful in getting me this career?
