"Raped 10 yr old gives birth in India"/ "Oprah's intense interview the Jackson accusers"

Aug. 18, 2017 "Raped 10 yr old gives birth in India": today I found this article by Derek Hawkins in the National Post in the Edmonton Journal:

A 10-year-old Indian girl whose parents say she was raped and impregnated by her uncle has reportedly given birth after a court rejected her request for an abortion last month.

Doctors at the Government Medical College and Hospital in the northern city of Chandigarh delivered a baby girl through a C-section on Thursday morning, the Indian Express and the BBC reported.

The young mother was about seven months pregnant. The newborn was underweight, about 5 1/2 pounds, but was in stable condition, according to the BBC.

The girl’s parents found out she was pregnant earlier in the summer after she complained of stomach pains, the Indian Express reported. She later told her parents that her uncle had raped her a half-dozen times at the family’s home. After the uncle was arrested, the parents and a Delhi-based advocate asked a court to allow her to terminate the pregnancy.

In mid-July, a district court in Chandigarh ruled that the girl was too young and her pregnancy too advanced to have an abortion. The decision was based on a panel of doctors from the Government Medical College and Hospital, the hospital superintendent told The Washington Post at the time.

“If you abort then the risk to life is greater,” the superintendent said.

India’s Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act bars abortions beyond 20 weeks, though courts make exceptions in rare cases when the fetus isn’t viable or the mother’s life is at risk. The girl was 32 weeks pregnant when she was examined by doctors, who determined that the fetus was viable.

It is biologically possible for a girl to become pregnant as soon as she begins ovulating, though 10 years old is extremely young. Medical experts agree that carrying and delivering a baby at age 15 or younger, even through a C-section, poses life-threatening risks.

Pregnancy complications such as hemorrhaging, high blood pressure and obstructed labor were the leading cause of death among female adolescents in 2015, according to the World Health Organization.

The Indian court’s decision to deny the young rape victim an abortion was met with alarm from some medical professionals in the country who said she should have been allowed to terminate the pregnancy.

“An abortion needs to be done immediately,” Puneet Bedi, a Delhi-based gynecologist, told the Indian news site the Quint. “Yes, there are risks and abortion at this stage is tough, but for the girl who is still developing, the scars will be many.”

In a similar case this year, a court in the northern Indian state of Haryana permitted a 10-year-old girl who was 21 weeks pregnant to have an abortion after her mother alleged she was raped by her stepfather.

India is home to the world’s largest population of sexually abused children, according to the BBC. More than 10,000 children were raped in India in 2015, the BBC reported, most of them by relatives or family friends.

The Indian government has responded to a surging nationwide rape crisis by toughening its rape law and speeding up prosecutions, but convictions are uncommon.

Mar. 4, 2019 "Outrage erupts after Aregentian hospital denies 11 yr old rape victim abortion": Today I found this article by Daniel Politi in the Star Metro:

BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA— The 11-year-old made her wishes clear: She wanted to end the pregnancy that resulted from a rape at the hands of her grandmother’s boyfriend.

But authorities in her northern province stalled for weeks, forcing the girl to have a C-section on Wednesday, delivering a baby who experts say is unlikely to survive. The case has reignited a fierce debate over reproductive rights in Argentina, which last year came close to legalizing abortion for pregnancies up to 14 weeks.

As outrage over the latest Pro-choice activists in favour of decriminalizing abortion rally in Buenos Aires. Girls and women in Argentina face many challenges getting abortions.

The case spread across the nation, Argentine women flooded social media with photos of themselves as 11-year-olds, posted with the hashtag #Niñasnomadres, which means “girls, not mothers.”

The 11-year-old girl went to a clinic in a rural area on Jan. 29 after experiencing a severe stomach ache for several days. Doctors discovered she was 19 weeks pregnant.
Lucía and her mother made

clear that they wanted to terminate the pregnancy. Instead, officials at the hospital gave Lucía drugs that accelerated the development of the fetus, and allowed anti-abortion activists to visit Lucía’s hospital room, according to her lawyers.

A pair of private-sector doctors agreed to terminate the pregnancy at the request of the hospital.

"Oprah's intense interview the Jackson accusers": Today I found this article by Meredith Blake in the Star Metro:

NEW YORK — Oprah Winfrey is arguably the most famous survivor of childhood sexual abuse in the world.

And, as she said Wednesday in Manhattan where she recorded a special with two men whose allegations against Michael Jackson are detailed in the HBO documentary “Leaving Neverland,” the subject was a part of her daily talk show long before #MeToo ignited.

“In 25 years of the Oprah show, I did 217 episodes about sexual abuse,” she said, noting that “Leaving Neverland,” directed by Dan Reed, successfully conveyed the message that she had “tried and tried” to get across – “that sexual abuse was not just sexual abuse, it was also sexual seduction.”

In “Leaving Neverland,” which premiered at Sundance in January and Part 2 will air on HBO Monday night (Part 1 aired Sunday night), Wade Robson and James Safechuck recount allegations of sustained sexual abuse that they say began when they were 7 and 10 years old, respectively, and had devastating repercussions for both men and their families. The documentary is not merely an indictment of Jackson but also a damning look at the corrosive effects of fame and the blindness and complicity of many in the face of a pattern of widespread abuse and meticulous grooming.

My opinion: I only watch Oprah because of those serious sexual abuse episodes.

Does anyone remember when I was writing about Justin Berry on Oprah?

Mar. 5, 2019: This was a long time ago when Jackson died in 2009.  I was talking to one of my friends on the phone, and I want to protect her identity because she may not want people to know what she said.

I asked her what she thought about his death and she said: "I still think he's a child molester."

Though he was acquitted back in 2005, she still thought that.

Before and after the trial, a lot of people think Jackson is a child molester.

Before and after his death,  a lot of people think Jackson is a child molester.

R. Kelly: He has also been in the news recently.  However, he was always in the news about being a child molester.

Here is an old MadTV parody of his music video "Trapped in a Closet."  The parody song is called "Trapped in a Cupboard."  It's kind of offensive and funny.

This was published on YouTube in 2006.

My week:

Mon. Mar. 4, 2019 Easy way to shovel snow on the roof: You get a folded sign and slide it underneath the snow.

I thought it was good and all, but you have to stand below the roof to do it.  You can click on the link to watch the video:

Luke Perry's death: He had a stroke and 5 days later, he passed away.  I was never a fan of his, but he was alright on Riverdale.
The Enemy Within: I saw the pilot and it was good and well-written.  I will record all the episodes and watch it all in a week.

Street Legal: I saw the pilot and it was average.  I won't watch it again.  This was a reboot.

Diggstown: I saw the pilot and it was average.  I won't watch it again.

Wed. Mar. 6, 2019 Job search:

City Centre mall: McBain Camera closed down in the mall.

I applied to nearly every store at this mall.

Bonnie Doon mall: I applied to nearly every store at this mall.

Job interviews: I went to an interview at a bakery and a café.

Star Metro: I used to read the 24 News until it closed down in 2013.  Then I replaced it with Metro.  By May 2015, I stopped reading the Metro.

I already subscribed to the Edmonton Journal and the Globe and Mail so I will only read that.  You don't know this, but in Sept. 2018, we stopped subscribing to the G&M.  S had moved out.

My mom said how we should stop subscribing to it because only me, P, and dad read it.  That's fine.  I can still go to the website and read those life essays called "First Person" or any other articles that aren't for subscribers.

Last week, we stopped subscribing to the Edmonton Journal.  There was a problem, but we'll fix it later.  This week I started walking to my bus stop and picking up the Star Metro.

I would say this is a mediocre newspaper.  There is a short article, and then it says if you want to read more, then go to the website.

Thurs. Mar. 7, 2019: I went to work at my 2nd restaurant job.  My boss M gave me a week notice.  It was busy.

Then I went home and I checked my email, and there was the café saying that job interviews are being held today and tomorrow at this time.  I was at home for 30 min.  I decided to take the bus back to downtown and attend the interview.

1. There is no plan that evening.
2. You don't know what's going to happen tomorrow.  What if something comes up?

Fri. Mar. 8, 2019: It's a good thing that I did attend the interview yesterday because there is a huge snowfall that I have to shovel after work.

Canadian winter political cartoon: I read this in the Edmonton Journal last month.  It was about why we live in Canada even when there are cold winters:

"Must be the healthcare."

I'll think about that when I'm shoveling snow.

Mar. 9, 2019 Londondery mall charity: I was reading in the Metro and a ad says:

"International Women's Day
Every time you spend $50 from Mar. 1-Mar. 31, Londonderry will donate $1 to WIN House."

Here are 2 of my blogposts this week about women in the workplace:
