My week:

Fri. Apr. 26, 2024 "Nearly 23% of the Canadian population reported food insecurity in 2022": Today I found this article by Jenna Benchetrit on CBC:

Nearly nine million Canadians lived in food insecure households in 2022, with 22.9 per cent of the population reporting some form of food insecurity, according to a Statistics Canada report released Friday.

The data agency wrote in its annual Canadian Income Survey that 8.7 million people lived in households that reported some kind of food insecurity.

That was an increase of almost 1.8 million people from the previous year, when the rate was 18.4 per cent. It marked the second consecutive year of increases since the pandemic began.

Statistics Canada measures food insecurity across three categories:

  • Marginal: Those who worry about running out of food or having a limited selection of food because they can't afford it.
  • Moderate: Those who had to compromise on the quality and/or quantity of their food because they can't afford otherwise.
  • Severe: Those who reported skipping meals, reducing how much they ate or going days without food because they can't afford otherwise.

The number of people living in moderately and severely food insecure households increased in 2022, with the moderately impacted proportion rising to 10.9 per cent and the severely impacted proportion rising to six per cent.

Apr. 30, 2024 "More stores are ditching self-checkout amid theft and customer complaints": Today I found this article by Sophia Harris on CBC:

But Andrews says, along with theft, staffing requirements are often the main reasons why retailers abandon self-checkout. The machines require attendants to help customers — while also watching for thieves.

"What they found was that actually they couldn't eliminate a lot of the cashiers, because they needed the cashiers there, in part, to deter shoplifting," said Andrews, an associate professor at Drew University in Madison, N.J.

May 1, 2024 Dreams to Reality - Manifesting Your Life: Today I attended this online Meetup:

Hosted By Calgary Energy Healing and Meditation - Training in Power

Have you ever tried to turn your dream into a reality and cannot quite get there?

How about bringing everything you need into your life except for the one thing that you really want?

Have you been able to attract what you need when a crisis presents itself and not at other times?

Or, help other’s achieve their dreams but you cannot do it for yourself?

What about attaining what you want and not being able to hold onto it?

When these types of things happen, it is an indicator that you might need to address areas where you may get in your own way. We can help you turn your dreams into reality by showing you areas that keep you from moving forward.

Come and experience how our healers work and receive the chance to have a free intuitive reading.

When you come to this workshop, bring something forth that you would like to bring into your life. A few of you will be chosen from the audience and because of the way energy works, there will be something for you in each person’s share that you can apply to your own journey.

We welcome all and hope to see you there.

My opinion: This was good.  This woman told us how she had good things happen to her like getting into school, and then money was to come in.  The money didn't come, so she couldn't attend school.

I told her encouraging words in the chat like: "You're smart for being able to run 4 businesses.  I hope you become successful."

This is similar to what happened to me, but with work.  My friends from the Personality Meetup gave me some encouraging words.

Community League meeting: This was average.  I ate a donut.

I'm not going to write about what happened at the meeting, because this is the league's business.

Apr. 30, 2024 Winter: Today it's snowing.  At least when the snow lands on the cement, it melts and I don't have to shovel.

May 2, 2024 Bredin Centre: Today I went there for an appointment.  There is a whole hour of my job search.

You should call the company to see if they're still hiring for the job ad.  They may say they are, and you can book a job interview.

The Hallway Cafe: I then walked over here, because the cook M from the Hotel Restaurant job said she works here.

Tracy: I'm here to pass my resume.
M: We're only hiring youth because of this youth employment program.  I'm a chef/ instructor.
