May 26 Retirement article: Ginny Grimsley sent me this article "Planning for retirement."  I know for most of my friends and I, it's a long ways away, but you still kind of need to think about it.

Work life balance: Ginny Grimsley also sent me this article.  This would apply to everybody right now.  Here's a tip: "Don't be an employee, be employable."

Travelocity: Grimsely sent me this article about the Travelocity founder Terry Jones.  Here's a tip "Kill projects, not people" and analyze what went wrong.

Blog articles: I've been getting emails from Ginny Grimsley for months.  I read the articles, but I don't post them until now.  Some of them just aren't what I'm looking for.  I have been getting these emails from these nanny and babysitting websites to post these articles.  I posted some.  I used to get a lot from them like 5 emails a day, until it stopped in Mar. 2013.

I have actually been getting emails from these job/ education websites who have sent me articles and said that I can put it on the blog.  I then write about the article I read and put the link in.  Then months later, they say: "May you please remove the link?  Thanks."  So I do that.

May 29 Top 100 Employers: I was going through my inbox and found a Nov. Job Seeker newsletter.  Here is an article to Canada's Top 100 Employers:

Job fairs:
I found this article on the newsletter: "Job fairs: Worth your Time?"  If there are hiring managers, new to the area, recently graduated, then go to it.  If there are representatives collecting resumes and telling you to go to their website, then you can just apply online.

May 31 Yahoo buys Tumblr: I've read in the business section of the newspaper that Yahoo buys the blogging site Tumblr.  I have a friend who's on that site, but I haven't been to it in awhile.

Call centres: I met this woman who works at my call centre.  She said she worked at one for 5 yrs and then it closed down.  Interestingly enough when I tell her the call centres I worked at, she doesn't know the names.  It's like if you are at one location, you know the competition and you know the industry.

Jun. 4: I looked at jobs at Alberta Museums.  I picked it up at the U of A job fair, back in 2011.  I didn't get around to reading it until now because I was working a lot and reading all the other brochures I was more interested in.

Jun. 5 Feng shui consultant: I wrote about being this way back in Nov. 2012.  Does anyone remember it?  I recently signed up for the Red Lotus newsletters to be emailed to me.  There is also a free 27 page ebook on how to be feng shui consultant.  It's on PDF.  Here's the website:

Here's my blog:

I've been reading a lot about feng shui and I will totally feng shui your home or a room for free.  Basically, I will be moving your furniture and possessions around.  I'm sure of all you guys are like: "No, thanks."  lol.

Well, if you're interested, you can use this feng shui map.  It can be applied to your room and home.

Jun. 6 Exchange rates: A few weeks ago, I went to the Thomas Cook Foreign Exchange at City Centre mall after work.  I had $14 US cash as my tips and I wanted to get Canadian currency for it.  The woman who worked there said she would also have to charge me a $2 fee to change the money, so I would be getting like $11 for it.  I then took my money back.

I was going to go to the bank and then I see there was a long line, so I went home.  Today I went to the mall to pick up something and I brought my cash to exchange it at a bank.  I then get $13.97 for it.  So go to the bank to change your currency to avoid fees.

Capilano mall: Yesterday I was talking to a co-worker who was going to go there, and she said how the mall was closing down.  (For renovations and then they will open with new stores).  Today I went there and I saw how even more stores are vacant.  The Sherlock Holmes bar closed down and had a sign that there are locations in downtown and West Ed mall.

The women's clothing store Ricki's is closing down.  I will give them points that they are a good store who has been here for years even though the mall was so quiet all the time.  However some of the stores have moved to Bonnie Doon mall.

Jun. 7 Untitled Bookshop: I read in the Edmonton Journal today that the independent book store on Whyte Ave called the Untitled Bookshop is closing down in a month.  The owner Allison Boukall ran it for 3 yrs after she got laid off from another book store.

In the article it mentioned how these book stores closed down last yr: "Greenwood's, Belgravia Books and Treasures, and the 98 yr old Ukrainian Bookstore."

Jun. 11 Tracking employees: Ginny Grimsley sent me this article "Are Businesses crossing lines by Tracking Employees?"  There is this whole privacy issue.  The businesses should tell the employees straight up that we will be tracking you, like then the employees won't feel like they're being spied on.  Here's a good point:

"Improve customer service and satisfaction. Tracking helps a business tell people waiting somewhere for a delivery or service exactly where their package or service-person is and how long the wait will be."

Common sales problems: Ginny Grimsley sent me this article.  It was about following leads, and I could even apply this to a job search.  It's about following through every opportunity that is found.  “Eventually, they’ll find that instead of constantly chasing leads, they’re harvesting new clients.”

Investments: Right now I'm on my bank website learning about investments.  It's kind of boring.  There I said it.  However money is important.  I did talk to my dad and he made it interesting.

Me: From the book I Will Teach You to be Rich (by Rahmit Sethi), he says people in their 20s and 30s should buy 90% stocks and 10% bonds to avoid risk because bonds are safer.
Dad: Stocks aren't exactly risky.  It's about what kind of stocks they are.

After that I then emailed the financial representative at my bank.  I had talked to him at two 1 hr meetings about investments in 2012.
