Arrested again: please help reunite journalist with his family

Please help free Eskinder Nega and reunite this family
Six years ago, Amnesty International supporters like you helped free Serkalem Fasil, Eskinder Nega, and their infant son from jail.

Now, Eskinder has been arrested again.

He has been sentenced to 18 years in an Ethiopian prison for writing articles calling for freedom of expression and an end to torture. The Ethiopian government is clamping down alarmingly on its citizens for speak out out against them, and this includes prominant journalists like Eskinder.

Now silenced, he needs us to speak up for him, and be his voice.

In 2005, the Ethiopian government ordered a violent crackdown on post-election protests. Security forces reportedly killed nearly two hundred people. Eskinder and Serkalem, who is was a newspaper publisher at the time, wrote and published articles criticizing the government's actions. For this, they were both arrested and put in prison.

Their son, Nafkot, was born in that prison.

For Eskinder, this was one more brutal act of oppression in a life spent being hounded by his government for defending human rights. Few families have sacrificed more for their people.

Now again he finds himself imprisoned for speaking out for freedom of expression, and he needs you, and all Amnesty supporters like you, to protect him from arbitrary acts by the government used to silence dissent.

Please learn more about this case then join me in urging the Ethiopian government to re-unite this family by arranging for Eskinder's immediate and unconditional release from prison.
