ABOUT
Mandate
The Book Publishers Association of Alberta (BPAA) was founded in 1975 to support the development of a thriving provincial publishing industry, away from Canada’s traditional book publishing centres. Today one of the strongest communities of regional publishers in North America, the BPAA counts over 30 member companies, many of which are owned and operated in Alberta. Our members publish books by local, national and international authors and provide significant cultural and economic benefits to this province. They work with writers, printers, artists and other creative people to produce high quality books that are sold in Alberta and throughout the world.

Dragon Hill Publishing:
Dragon Hill Publishing:
Dragon Hill Publishing is a book publishing company located in Edmonton, Alberta, established in 1993. Our aim is to produce and market books to the popular adult and youth markets for Canada that help individuals better understand themselves and their place in the community, as well as literature that increases understanding and tolerance among various individuals and cultures.
Dragon Hill Publishing Ltd. is a proud member of the Book Publishers Association of Alberta.
Produced with the assistance of the Government of Alberta.
Argenta Press
Over the past few years, we have been developing Argenta Press, an imprint of Dragon Hill Publishing. Argenta Press provides a more focused outlet for the literary market—including Canadian western folklore, literary titles, art books, biographies and autobiographies, high-quality children’s books, fiction and books that explore the deeper roots of the Canadian experience.
Mobius Books
In 2015, Dragon Hill established the Mobius Books imprint. For some time, it had been our plan to release titles of a spiritual or self-help nature. In 2015 we launched our first title in this genre, The Intelligence of Love: Manifesting Your Being in This World.
Three Principles Publishing
In 2017, we devised the Three Principles Publishing imprint to fit a single book—The Secret of Love. Although in the self-help genre, this title needed to be set apart as it follows the principles of philosopher Sydney Banks and a wide range of psychologists, lecturers and therapists.
Ready to Share your Story?
At Dragon Hill, the focus is on biographies, histories and other works dedicated to a regional sense of place or a given community’s sense of heritage. We suggest you look at books we already have published for a better sense of what might appeal to us.
If you have a manuscript for which you feel we might be an appropriate fit to our mandate, please send a book proposal package by email to the Editorial Director.

GUIDELINES
Cover Letter: Your cover letter should describe the proposed book and its unique features. Describe who would buy it, and why you should write it. Include a short résumé describing your qualifications and listing other publications if applicable. Include a description of competing works, if any. Will you provide photos or illustrations or maps?
The Submission: Attach a draft table of contents, a few sample chapters to give us a taste of your writing style and an opportunity to become interested in the content, copies of sample illustrations—no originals—and a stamped, self-addressed envelope if you wish to use the postal system and want the material returned. Do not send cash or a cheque to cover return postage. Do not send the complete manuscript and do not send original artwork or any irreplaceable material. We will not assume any responsibility for the safety of any of the materials. Keep a copy of your submission.
Other Considerations: Typos, careless presentation, grammatical errors and sloppiness are all taken into consideration in a book proposal, as well as marketability and cost of production. Ensure you have obtained copyright permission to use any materials that are not your own creation.
Response to Submissions: Dragon Hill will let you know—generally within a few months—whether or not your book proposal interests us. If it doesn’t, you’ll receive a letter and the returned package of material if postage was included. Please be patient; replies sometimes take several months owing to volume. Please do not phone inquiring about the status of your book proposal. An e-mailed submission will receive a response by e-mail. We do not reply to multiple submissions.
