234 girls have been abducted from their school in Nigeria Dear Tracy,
It's every parent's worst nightmare.
A child abducted while at school.
Three
weeks ago, over 200 girls were taken from the Government Girls
Secondary School in Chibok in north-eastern Nigeria by the armed
Islamist group Boko Haram. #BringBackOurGirls is the echo from their
parents who are tireless fighting for the return of their daughters.
Now there are reports that the girls, mostly aged between 16 and 18, are being sold into sexual slavery or forced "marriage".
Please, we need YOUR VOICE to help us rally international support.
You can help us do our part in Canada by sending a message to the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa.
We
can't let this deeply distressing news stand without a loud and swift
response. Please act right away and encourage your friends to speak up
as well.
Sincerely,
Alex Neve Secretary General, Amnesty International Canada
P.S.
The abduction and enslavement of these girls is a brazen act by Boko
Haram, who openly oppose the right of the girls to an education, and is a
violation of the girls' most basic human rights.
P.P.S. This
shocking event is creating an enormous outcry as citizens around the
world rally in support of the parents who have taken to the streets of
the capital Abuja, demanding action. Amnesty International is mobilizing
globally to ensure that the Nigerian authorities cannot ignore the rights of these girls and their families. Please help us tell Nigeria's representative in Canada that you want to the girls brought home safely. If you use social media, please spread the word using #bringbackthewomen.
