I got this from Food Banks Canada:
For
Tara Reid, the hardest part of visiting a food bank was overcoming the
emotional hurdle of admitting she needed help. Six years ago, the 41
year-old native of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia had to give up her job due to a
series of illnesses that affected her eyesight.
As Tara’s sight diminished, so did her strength, confidence
and her income. Seeing Tara struggle to make ends meet on her
disability income, a friend suggested she visit the North Dartmouth
Outreach Resource Centre run by FEED NOVA SCOTIA.
“It’s hard to say ‘I need help’ but the fact that it’s there is really appreciated,” she says. There are days when she wonders how she’ll make it through the month, but the connections and support she receives at the food bank bring her great comfort.
Tara is not alone. There are almost 900,000 Canadians across the country who are accessing a food bank each and every month. This story is an example of the programs that Food Banks Canada assists throughout the year. As part of our role as the national organization our work ensures that food banks are provided with the resources to help Canadians seeking food assistance.
