Oct. 3, 2025 "‘Extraordinary value’: Chipotle to open more stores despite weak sales": Today I found this article by Joshua Santos on BNN Bloomberg:
Chipotle Mexican Grill is developing strategies to generate more foot traffic as Canadians steer away from dining out due to an increase cost of living.
A Restaurants Canada report states three in four Canadians are eating out less,
yet Scott Boatwright, Chipotle’s CEO, says the company will hold prices
and even expand.
“My idea of value for the consumer, is benefit over price,” Boatwright told BNN Bloomberg in a Thursday interview.
“If I can hold the price constant and continue to lean into the value
of the offering
or the benefit of the offering,
it continues to showcase the value that is Chipotle.”
Chipotle currently employs over 130,000 employees
over 3,800 restaurants in
the United States,
Canada,
the United Kingdom,
France,
Germany,
Kuwait
and the United Arab Emirates.
There are 66 restaurants in Canada.
Boatwright said the company will open between 315 to 345 new restaurants in North America this year, with additional growth outside of the continent.
“I still believe that we’re an extraordinary value navigating
a challenging economic backdrop
and challenging industry in general,
but we are still front footed,” said Boatwright.
Chipotle plans to release its Q3 financial results on Oct. 29 with a business update. Stocks were trading at US$41 as of Friday afternoon marking a 52-week low and a 21.2 per cent three-month decline.
The company had a difficult year with stocks tumbling 35.5 per cent year-to-date compared to a 52-week high of $66.74 due to economic uncertainty and inflation. Boatwright however remains confident in his company.
“We’re still one of the best brands in the industry,” said Boatwright.
“I still believe in what we do as an organization,
and we will come out of this stronger than ever.”
Chipotle released it’s Q2 results in July with sales for existing restaurants dropping four per cent from the year before.
Despite industry challenges, Boatwright said the company has seen positive consumer reception in new markets like Qatar.
“I was really surprised by our opening in Qatar,” said Boatwright. “I wish I could share how we were met with such extraordinary fanfare in Qatar, just this past week, with record sales openings there as well.”
Chipotle has a long-term target of 7,000 restaurants including a joint venture in South Korea.
“We have expansion plans today for South Korea, as well as Singapore, which will obviously give us access to other Asian countries,” said Boatwright.
It is exploring gluten-free options and continues to innovate with limited-time offers like carne asada and red chimichurri.
Oct. 17, 2025 "A&W Food Services reports $17.6M Q3 profit, up from $6.5M a year earlier": Today I found this article on BNN Bloomberg:
VANCOUVER — A&W Food Services of Canada Inc. reported a third-quarter profit of $17.6 million,
up from $6.5 million in the same quarter last year.
The burger restaurant chain says the profit amounted to 71 cents per diluted share for the quarter ended Sept. 7, up from 42 cents per diluted share a year earlier.
Revenue for the quarter totalled $71.2 million, down from $76.0 million in the same quarter last year.
The company attributed the decline to a difference in the timing of restaurant openings with seven fewer openings in its most recent quarter compared with a year earlier.
System sales for the quarter amounted to $479.6 million, up from $465.1 million.
The increase came as same-store sales rose 1.4 per cent due to an increase in both average cheque size and customer counts.
