Captain America: The First Avenger/ The Winter Soldier/ Guardians of the Galaxy

Jul. 29, 2019 Captain America: The First Avenger: I saw this movie on Sept. 11, 2014 on TV.

"Steve Rogers, a rejected military soldier transforms into Captain America after taking a dose of a "Super-Soldier serum". But being Captain America comes at a price as he attempts to take down a war monger and a terrorist organization."

Pros:

1. There is a good opening.  It's winter in Alaska.  They find this huge ship and Captain America's shield.

2. The cast:

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/ Captain America.  He was in Fantastic Four.  I liked him in Cellular.

He really wants to join the army, but he's too physically weak.  He's very patriotic.  They show that his character is smart when he is able to get the flag down off the poll.  He is willing to sacrifice himself when a grenade is thrown.

Haley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter.  She's tough.  She was sexually harassed and she hits the guy.

Sebastian Stan as Steve's friend Bucky.  It turns out he is going to be on this TV show The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in 2020:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9208876/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_3

Tommy Lee Jones Colonel Chester Phillips.

Hugo Weaving as the villain Red Skull.

Stanley Tucci as Dr. Abraham.

2. The dialogue:

Dr. Abraham: Don't be a perfect soldier, but a good man.

I'm going to put that into my inspirational quotes.

3. There is good action.  Steve is transformed into a soldier after the serum.

Spoiler alert: A man blows up the lab and shoots Abraham.  There is a shootout and a car chase.  Steve chases after him on foot.  The man takes a suicide pill.  He is Hydra.

Steve: What's the rescue mission?
Sergeant: Winning the war.

There is a train fight scene.

4. It's comedy.  Steve becomes a mascot and takes pictures with people, and enrolls them into the army.  He goes out and entertains the troops.

Carter: Lab rat or dancing monkey?

5. There is good writing.  There is lots of drama, conflict, and tension as Captain America and his team have to stop Schmidt from using a weapon of mass destruction on the US.

6. There is a good ending:

Spoiler alert: Well Captain America saves the lives.  However, it turns out he was sleeping for 70 yrs.

Cons: None.

My opinion: I thought it was a good movie when I first saw it.  There is a low chance I would watch it again.

Jul. 30, 2019 Captain America: The Winter Soldier: I saw this on TV in Mar. 2017.

Pros:

1. The opening is Steve Rogers jogging, and passing Sam Wilson/ Falcon (Anthony Mackie).

There is a good action scene as Captain America and Black Widow has to save 20 hostages on a ship.  There is good hand-to-hand combat.

2. There is a good dramatic scene in the beginning as Steve visits Peggy who is now very old.

Steve: I just wanted to do what was right.  I'm not quite sure what that is anymore.
Peggy: The best we can do is start over.

3. There is really good action.

A car chase scene with Dr. Fury.  There is a shootout.

There is a chase scene as Steve is running on roofs.

The elevator fight scene.  It was crazy because it was tight and crowded.

There was a highway fight scene.

4. There is good writing.  There is a mystery as Dr. Fury gives Steve a USB key.

The big finale is about saving millions of people.

5. Good dialogue:

"Peace is not an achievement, but was a responsibility."

Cons: None.

My opinion: It was a good at best, and average at worst.  There is a low chance I would watch it again.

Guardians of the Galaxy: I saw this movie in 2017 on TV.

"A group of intergalactic criminals must pull together to stop a fanatical warrior with plans to purge the universe."

Pros:

1. There is a good opening.  It's set in 1988 with Peter Quill who is 10 yrs old.  His mom is sick in a hospital bed.  Later Peter is then abducted by aliens.

He is now an adult and dancing to the song "Come and Get Your Love" by Redbone.  He gets an orb, but encounters a guard.  There is a fight scene.

2. The cast:

Chris Pratt as Peter Quill.  He is funny and likable.

Zoe Saldana as Gamora, who is an assassin.

Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, the raccoon.

Vin Diesel as the voice of the tree Groot.

3. The team is arrested and are in prison.  There is a crazy, fun, and funny escape scene from here.

Towards the end, Quill does some dancing.

4. The movie is fun to watch.

5. There is drama as Peter does sacrifice himself to save Gamora.  They have to save the people of Xandar.

Groot saves the whole team.

Cons: None.

My opinion: The movie was good.  I would be open to watching the sequel.  There is a low chance I would watch it again.

Aug. 26, 2019 Instinct: This TV show got cancelled.  I just finished watching the season 2 finale/ series finale.  I wasn't really surprised because this was a spring season 2018 TV show.  It got a 2nd season that aired during the summer time.  I liked the mystery cop drama show.  Here's an excerpt:

Alan Cumming has taken to social media to eulogize CBS’ Instinct, which on Friday was cancelled after two seasons. In a heartfelt post, the Good Wife alum pays tribute to his co-star, Bojana Novakovic, and acknowledges the significance of playing the first-ever openly gay lead character on a broadcast network drama.

“So the word is out. @InstinctCBS will not be returning for a third season,” he writes. “Almost exactly three years ago I was sent a galley copy of a book by [James Patterson] and [Howard Roughan] and then I met the showrunner [Michael Rauch] who was to adapt it for TV and I jumped in… And while I’m sorry I won’t be getting to play with [Bojana Novakovic] and the rest of the amazing cast and crew again, I’m grateful for two seasons of fun and gore and feeling like a dandy thanks to [Dan Lawson]’s costumes, and selfies with corpses and vegan options at catering and [my dog] Lala’s occasional guest appearances in the police station when she got bored in her basket beneath my desk.

Aug. 27, 2019 Muchmusic programming: They used to play Comedy Now! and Just for Laughs Gags in the morning.  I checked yesterday, and now they replaced it with Married....with Children.  Now I noticed they don't play any music videos.  They usually put an hr of videos.

I'm writing about this, because there are 4 more weeks before all those new TV show pilots come on.

Aug. 30, 2019 Wild Wild West: Today I was talking to my friend Sherry and we were talking about TV and movies.  Did you know that this was a TV show in the 1960s before it became a movie in 1999?

I didn't know that that until she told me.  I saw the last 15 min of this movie when it was on TV.

My week:

Sat. Aug. 24, 2019 Fun: I went to my friend Cham's condo.  She had a friend B from work, and his wife M, and their 6 yr old son J.  They bought pizza and wings.  They were Filipino.

At first I asked about what TV shows they watch, because I always do that when I meet new people.  Then it turned into talking about mortgages and rent because they said they moved from Calgary to Edmonton for work, and they were renting out their house in Calgary.

Ralph Breaks the Internet: Since there was a kid there, we all sat down and watched this movie on Netflix:

Six years after the events of "Wreck-It Ralph," Ralph and Vanellope, now friends, discover a wi-fi router in their arcade, leading them into a new adventure.

My opinion: I don't usually watch kid-friendly, and family-friendly movies.  I usually watch action movies.  This was an average movie.  It was a fun to watch.

The Sinner: Then I watched the first 3 episodes of season 2.  I got to watch the last 5 episodes of season 2 because I had a free preview of Showcase for awhile.

I also got to watch the last 2 eps of season 1 when I had a free preview.

"Anthology series that examines how and why ordinary people commit brutal crimes."

My opinion: This show is really good with the writing, acting, and production.  I like crime dramas and mystery.

Sun. Aug. 25, 2019 Central Edmonton Alliance Church: Today I went to this church.  I have never been here before.  I was there from 10:30am -12pm.  It was close by.  It was called First Filipino Alliance.  95% of the people there were Filipino.

The sermon was kind of boring.

Tues. Aug. 27, 2019 Support Students in Need: Here are some charities to help students:

https://www.canadahelps.org/en/support-students-in-need/

Wed. Aug. 28, 2019 Good deed: My co-worker P got lots of leftovers from work.  There were 2 bags of food.  She told me she gave a bag of muffins and a quiche to a homeless guy.  He was surprised.  That's good to help homeless people by giving them food.

Karpman Drama Triangle: I was listening to Christy Whitman:

There are these three roles. This is from the Karpman Drama Triangle from the ‘60s. The one role is the rescuer, “Let me help you. Can I do everything for you? I don’t want you to be upset, so let me do everything. Let me make sure that I’ve got things figured out ten steps ahead of you without asking. Let me try to anticipate whatever needs you’re going to have so that you don’t get upset.

Let me walk on eggshells. Let me make sure that everything is fine and everything is to your liking. Let me try to control the universe around you so that you’re okay.” That’s playing a rescuer and it’s exhausting for both sides but to a victim, you can never do enough. You can never show up enough. You can never rearrange the world and control the world enough because the victim, “The poor me nothing ever goes right. That’s not enough. I’m angry because nothing ever goes right.”

My opinion: This video reminds me of my friend who was trying to make me feel bad and get me to tell her a private conversation I had.

Lesson: Not everything is going to be to your liking.

Fri. Aug. 30, 2019 City Centre: I did a little shopping today by shopping for 1hr and 15 min here.  Here are a few things I noticed:

1. Blue Notes closed down.  I know it opened in 2018.

2. Kurves Brows closed down.
3. Servus Credit Union closed down.
4. Crema Espresso Bar closed down.

There were a lot of autumn, Thanksgiving and Halloween décor.

Sat. Aug. 31, 2019 Farmer's market: Today I went to the one on 104 St in downtown.  I haven't been to one in years.  They sell lots of fruits and vegetables.  I mainly tried some samples of cookies, nuts, and sausages.  There was also jewellery.

There were food trucks.

After that, I went to do some more shopping at City Centre.  It's the last weekend of the summer, so I wanted to be put some fun in.

Ariana Grande surprising fans: I thought this was nice and funny to watch:

"Ariana Grande surprises superfans while they think they're filming a fan video covering her songs - not realizing she is in the other room listening."
