The Exorcist TV show/ mid-season 2017 TV season

Aug. 30, 2018 The Exorcist: I have never seen the movie that this TV show is based off of.  I may have seen a min. of it when I was 17 yrs old and thought it was too scary for me.

"Follows three priests dealing with cases of a demonic presence targeting a family and a foster home."

Pros:

1. The cast.  In the first season we had the mom Angela (Geena Davis).  A demon is possessing one of them as the family deals with the drama.

Alan Ruck plays the dad Henry who has had an accident at work and is in mental decline.

Brianne Howey plays the older daughter Kat who got into a car accident and her friend died.

Hannah Kasulka plays the youngest Casey.

In the 2nd season, John Cho (Harold and Kumar go to White Castle) and he plays a foster dad to five kids.

Alfonso Herrera plays Father Tomas and he is new to being a priest and being an exorcist.  He is kind and compassionate.

Ben Daniels plays Father Marcus and he is an experienced priest and exorcist.

2. There is great writing with lots of drama, conflict, and tension.

It's scary with scary images like a 10 yr old boy is possessed and he is bleeding from the eyes.

There is a good plot twist at the end of the pilot.

There are lots of plot twists in the first season of the show.

3. Good production.

Cons: None.

My opinion: I watched the pilot and it was very good.  I was unsure if I wanted to watch it regularly.  A week goes by and it comes on.  I then decided to record all the episodes and watch it in October to get into the Halloween mood.  This is a really good show with good acting and writing.

Mid-season 2017 TV season:

Sept. 9, 2018 Training Day: I saw the pilot to this show on Feb. 2017.   I have never seen the movie.

"TV follow-up to the 2001 film 'Training Day' about a rookie cop partnered with a corrupt officer."

Pros:

1. It had a great opening.  There was this action scene with Det. Kyle Craig (Justin Cornwell) who busts into an apartment.  He gets into a shootout and a fight scene.  There is a gasoline release.  He gets the baby and flies out the window as the apartment explodes.

He gets on the TV news.  There is a little flashback of Craig talking to his dad who was a cop.

2. The cast.

Bill Paxton (Big Love) and here he is in one of his last works before he passed away.  He is Det. Frank Rourke.

Justin Cornwell is the rookie cop and he's good.

Marianne Jean-  Baptiste is the Deputy Chief.  She plays the boss on Blindspot so it's not much of a stretch for her.

Katrina Law (Arrow).

Drew Van Acker (Pretty Little Liars).

Julie Benz (Dexter).

3. There is good drama, conflict, and tension as a crime drama.  There is a little comedy here and there.  There is lots of action.

Cons: None.

My opinion: The pilot was good and all, but I never watched it again.

Sept. 11, 2018 Taken: I saw the pilot on Mar. 2017.  I have never seen the movie.  I know the movie is about a father who has to save his daughter.  In the show, the lead is
Bryan Mills who is in late 20s and early 30s.

"As former CIA agent Bryan Mills deals with a personal tragedy that shakes his world, he fights to overcome the incident and exact revenge."

Pros:

1. It had a great opening with an action scene on a train.  Bryan is with his little sister (Celeste Desjardins) who is in late teens.  There is a great fight scene, and a shoot out.  His sister dies.

2. The cast:

Clive Standen is good at the role of Bryan.  He reminds me a bit of my favorite actor Eric Johnson.

https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0425053/?ref_=nv_sr_1

Jennifer Beals is the boss here.

There is good acting as Bryan's mom grieves.  Bryan and mom are hugging as she is crying.

3. There is good action in the first scene, and later on when Bryan is chasing a black van.

4. There is a good surprise.  It looks like Bryan is watching TV and unaware that a team of bad guys are going to attack him.

Then it turns out Bryan is watching security cameras and sees the bad guys.

Cons: None.

My opinion: The pilot was good and all, but I never watched it again.

Sept. 29, 2018 APB: This show came on Feb. 2017.

"After witnessing a violent crime, a tech billionaire purchases a troubled police precinct, rebooting it as a private police force."

Pros:

1. Good opening.  It starts with the tech billionare Gideon Reeves (Justin Kirk) giving a presentation to investors about these drones detonates fire.

He then goes a to a convenience store and it then gets robbed.  Gideon calls 911 and Robber finds him and gets his money.

Robber then sees Gideon's face on the cover of a magazine and is about to kidnap him.  Gideon's friend Elliot comes in and he gets shot and killed.

Gideon then has to avenge his friend's death by buying the police precinct.

2. Justin Kirk as Gideon is average.

Natalie Martinez is good as a cop Theresa.  I saw her in the 2nd scene and then recognized her from the TV show Secrets and Lies.  She then got on the show The Crossing.

Taylor Handley (Oliver from The OC) is a cop.

3. It was fun and exciting to see them use technology like drones, an app to report crimes, and souped up cars.

There are some good fight scenes and chase scenes.

Cons: None.

Comparisons:

The lead character's friend/ family member/ loved one dies and then he or she has to avenge his or her death: The Training Day pilot among others.

My opinion: It was average and then I never watched it again.

Nov. 10, 2018 "Homeless treasure hunter gets windfall": Today I found this article by Chris Purdy in the Edmonton Journal

EDMONTON – Alexander Archbold knew the homeless man as a friendly, kind guy who sometimes came into his antique shop to sell various trinkets and treasures dug out of dumpsters.

Whether Archbold wanted the items or not, he bought them so the man would have enough money to buy lunch.

It was in September when the man he knew only as Adam walked into Curiosity Inc. in Edmonton with an old bag containing a drawing of Bambi in a tattered, dirty frame.

Adam asked for $20 for the find. Archbold agreed.

“I thought, well, it’s Bambi. I can probably clean it up,” Archbold recalled Friday.

It was later, he said, when he took the picture out of the frame, that he realized it was valuable. A certificate on the back said it was an authentic 1937 animation cel from the classic Disney movie.

“I just thought oh my goodness. It’s the real thing and it’s worth a lot more than I thought it was. And I have to do something to help this guy out.”

Archbold detailed the discovery on YouTube where a man from New York, who had once been homeless himself, took interest. That man ended up buying the cel after Archbold posted it on eBay for $3,700.

Adam walked back into the shop earlier this week. Archbold handed him $1,600, drove him to a bank to help him reactivate an old account, then took him out for lunch.

He said Adam told him that his life fell apart after he fell into a depression. He had been working as a drywaller but lost his job, his wife and his home. Three of his four children were taken into care. At 38, he had been living on Edmonton streets for three years.

His children are living with his mother in Ontario, and he wants to move there to be with them.

Archbold said he’s trying to make that happen. He has set up a GoFundMe page for Adam. It had raised $5,200 by Friday afternoon.

Michael Kor's charity:
Michael Kors vividly remembers the moment when he first heard about the charity God’s Love We Deliver.

The meal recipients, he learned, were those who had become sick and lost their jobs. Many were left alone, abandoned by their family and friends, and didn’t have access to, or sometimes lacked money for food. Kors knew he had to help.

“I remember the first time I delivered a meal to someone’s house,” he says. “When I walked in, I realized that we were the only people that they saw. They didn’t see anyone. They had no friends and no family. Everyone had left. And, you arrived with the meal, and their face just lit up.”

Kors has been a part of God’s Love We Deliver ever since.

Via his partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme, all funds raised through Watch Hunger Stop go to support the WFP’s school meal programs around the world. In addition to fighting hunger, Kors is particularly proud of the effect the program has on availability of education for young girls.

“Parents, especially with girls, in many cities and many countries, they won’t send their daughter to school unless there is a free meal,” he says.

“So suddenly there’s a free meal and she goes to school because the parents say ‘OK, she has a meal.’ But then, she also gets an education. And you change the whole cycle.”

Kors is, of course, a savvy businessman; one who can easily acknowledge that people will often give more if they get a little something back, even if it’s just extra likes and shares on social media. Perhaps it’s this knowledge that has made his initiative-benefitting products, like his limited-edition T-shirts and the Watch Hunger Runway Watch such a hit with his customers.

“It has made 17.6 million meals possible in this short period of time,” he says of the products and social sharing. “… We couldn’t have done this without social media, at this speed.”
Nov. 13, 2018 "Cleaner Deadpool coming... we swear": Today I found this article by Michael Cavna in the Edmonton Journal.  There will be a Once Upon a Deadpool with a PG rating.  A $1 of each ticket sold will go to the charity Fudge Cancer.

Nov. 10, 2018 Out of the box: I wrote that I worked at Telemarketer #1 and #2 before.  I didn't sell any tickets in the 4 days, so I was dismissed.  I did get paid.
Today I then decided to look for other positions in the companies.  One of them was hiring so I applied.

Nov. 11, 2018 Interior design: Today I applied to some interior design companies.

Nov. 12, 2018: I then looked into other industries in the job search engine:

-marketing
-windows and doors
-furniture
-TV production
-filmmaking

Nov. 13, 2018 Stan Lee passing away:
https://www.cnn.com/2018/11/12/entertainment/stan-lee-obit/index.html

Mixed results: Today I woke up in the middle of the night to go to the washroom.  I couldn't get back to sleep.  I was listening to classical music on the radio for 1 hr.  Then I watched a Manifest ep.  I then went to bed.

I slept in an hr, so that's good because I don't have to work until later.

However, I checked my email, and I was told I was to call this woman at 7:30am, and not at 8:30am.  I was wrong and I had to reschedule.  At least it wasn't a job interview.

I went to work and I know it was to be really busy.  There were some rushes here and there.  I also finally met P, who is worker who works at different times than me.  She and I talked about TV.

Nov. 14, 2018 Just Cozy: This is a pop up store in City Centre.  It will be here until Jan.

Nov. 15, 2018 Homeless man and couple allegedly made up sweet story in scam: I'm sure you all remember the story of a homeless man giving $20 to a woman who was stranded so she could pay for gas.  If you watch this, it seems like all 3 of them made up a story.

My opinion: I read the National Post in the Edmonton Journal that the people who donated did get a refund.

You should donate to homeless charities like the Mustard Seed.
