Call on Saudi Arabian authorities to reverse this outrageous sentence
We can't let what happened this morning in Saudi Arabia happen again next week
Dear friends,
If there ever was a moment we need supporters of human rights to speak up, this is it.
In a vicious, inhumane act of cruelty, Raif Badawi was flogged 50 times this morning in public outside of the al-Jafali mosque in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
He is at risk of receiving the remaining 950 lashes over the coming weeks, as per his sentence, for the "crime" of creating the Saudi Arabian Liberals website and the accusation that he had “insulted Islam”.

Amnesty
International considers Raif Badawi to be a prisoner of conscience and
is calling for his immediate and unconditional release.

P.S. Amnesty supporters all around the world have been writing letters en masse for the past month, calling for his release. Yesterday, when we heard that the sentencing was to begin, we asked supporters to call the Saudi embassy here in Canada, and we gathered outside the embassy in protest. We need you to express your outrage at this gross violation of Raif's rights. We won't stop until this cruelty stops.
