Dear Tracy,

Long lines of cars full of terrified families jammed the road as Amnesty researcher Donatella Rivera left the city of Mosul in Iraq.

It was a mass exodus - a testament to the impact on civilians since fighters from the Islamic State in Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) took control of the city.

Amnesty sent Donatella into the field to investigate what is happening to Iraqis in the wake of the conflict. Please make a donation to support efforts to document and put an end to human rights violations around the world, including in conflict zones like Iraq.

Donatella spoke with families who had been torn apart by violence. Pointing to a hole left by an artillery shell that struck his home and killed his son along with four others, a man said, "We repaired this, but nothing will repair my broken heart. My boy was taken from me and my other son was so badly injured, he will never recover."

As ISIS and Sunni armed groups battle the Iraqi armed forces and Shi'a militias, all parties are committing war crimes in pursuit of control of the country.

Donatella and other Amnesty experts have been sent to the field to gather stories, photos and videos that document war crimes. We'll share what we learn with the media and pressure the international community to take action.

We must ensure that the deliberate and indiscriminate attacks on civilians stop, and that safe passage, refuge and support be provided to displaced people fleeing the violence.

We have a responsibility to the people of Iraq and to civilians in conflict zones throughout the world. Will you help keep our researchers in the field? Donate now.

Sincerely,

Margaret Huang
