Dear Tracy,

A father in Syria tried to get bread to starving families trapped in a suburb of Damascus. He was stopped at a Syrian army checkpoint, cleared to proceed, then shot dead by a government sniper.

This is just one example of the Syrian government's use of starvation as a weapon of war. Today, Amnesty is releasing a groundbreaking report to make sure the world knows that the Syrian government is starving thousands of its people.

Please donate and support our independent work to hold perpetrators of these war crimes accountable.

Three years after the uprising that preceded the Syrian government's brutal crackdown, civilians in places like Yarmouk, a Damascus suburb, are under siege.

In fact, the Syrian army stopped the entry of all food, goods, and medical supplies into Yarmouk eight months ago – with very limited exceptions.

Amnesty's new report is based on first-hand accounts of starvation and violence collected by our expert researchers in the field.

They learned that residents who forage for food are frequently shot by Syrian army snipers and that in desperation, some civilians have killed and eaten cats and dogs, suffering food poisoning as a result.

The siege of Yarmouk is only one of many throughout Syria. Across the country, 250,000 Syrians are living in areas besieged mostly by government forces. Some civilians in pro-government areas have also come under siege from armed opposition groups.

Your support will help us get these stories in front of decision-makers – including Members of the U.S. Congress who we are calling on to help forge solutions to this crisis. We must advocate for greater access to humanitarian aid for Syrians now. Please donate now.

Show the Syrian people that they have not been forgotten.

Sincerely,

Sunjeev Bery
