Arms Trade Treaty

I got this from Amnesty International:

Arms Trade Treaty Update: Talks are over, still no Treaty... yet.

Your voice joined the roar of hundreds of thousands of others calling for a robust treaty on the trade of arms.
After a frantic final day of negotiation, the Treaty was delayed after a motion by the United States, backed by China and Russia. More than 90 countries, including Canada, issued a statement reiterating their commitment to see the process succeed as soon as possible. We can't say we're not disappointed, and we're sure you are too.
The good news is that a strong draft Treaty text is now likely to be sent back to the UN General Assembly in October, meaning there's still a chance that the world will finally end the irresponsible trade of arms.
You stood up for the millions of civilians who are killed, injured, raped, and forced to flee their homes as a direct result of states transferring arms to governments and war lords who use them against civilians. It's been twenty years of hard work from Amnesty International to get to this point, and your support was crucial to make this extra step. Thank you. We may call on your support again for some final lobbying in the fall.
Right now, you have the chance to tell Russia to immediately halt its weapons sales to Syria.
Civilians are still being targeted, and this is a war crime. If you haven't already, sign here and tell Russia: Stop the bloodshed in Syria! Please share this with your friends.
Thank you once again for taking action and believing in an Arms Trade Treaty.
Sincerely,
Hilary Homes, Arms Trade Treaty Campaigner
