dentist/ rescue story/ occupation stories

May 7 Dentist: I was reading in the Globe and Mail Life section on May 3, 2012:  "A dentist in Wroclaw, Poland 'pulled out all of her ex-boyfriend's teeth after he dumped her for another woman- who has now left him because he's toothless.' the Daily Mail reports.  Anna Mackowiak, 34 may go to jail after her 45 yr old ex- boyfriend Marek Olszewski went to her because he had a tooth ache.

It was days after he broke up with her.  She then put him under anesthesia and pulled his teeth out.  She then wrapped his head and jaw in a bandage to stop him opening his mouth and told him to go to a specialist.

She says: "I tried to be professional and detach myself from my emotions.  But when I saw him lying there I just thought, 'What a bitch.'"

Me: If you aren't afraid to go to the dentist, then you should be if your ex is a dentist.  Why did he go to her after he dumped her for another woman?  That's the worst way to break up with somebody for someone else.  If his reason was like: "We always fight about how much time I spend at work.  I'm sick of arguing.  I want to focus more on work."  Would she still have pulled out all his teeth?

I would tell everybody: "Don't go to the dentist if he or she is your ex."

20/20: On Apr. 20, 2012, I was watching 20/20 and it was about sex.

Book: They interviewed the author EL James who wrote 50 Shades of Grey.  It's a sexual book and it's on the best seller's list.  She read Twilight and was inspired by it.  EL wrote book on her Black Berry on her way to work.  It's about S&M.  The boyfriend in the story is rich and takes care of the lead girl in the book.

He has the qualities that women like.  Also sex sells.

Open marriage: They interviewed a married couple named Martin and Sierra.  They've been married for 9 yrs with 2 kids.  They date other people.  20/20 then interviewed the other people.  It showed 8 people all dating one another.  Martin and Sierra's kids know they're in an open marriage.  They're all happy and supportive of each other.

Male escorts: It talked about the reality TV show Gigolo.  They interviewed a 49 yr old woman named Theresa who is dating the 29 yr old escort Nick.

Theresa: He makes me happy.

Garren James created his male escort business called Cowboys for Angels.  He was an escort before he started this business.

GJ: We don't sell sex, we sell companionship.

Sex does happen.  They talked to a clinical psychologist: "It's hard for a woman to keep having sex with someone without being attached.

Me: I'm going to say this.  I watched Dr. Phil on Apr. 18, 2 days before this episode was on.  It was about male escorts so I had to watch it.  They interviewed the same people.  I know I quit his show, but it was my day off.  I had already done my office job search and worked at my 2nd part-time temp job so I can justify watching his show.  I also didn't get angry when watching it.

Garren James was on the show talking about his business and he said the same thing about selling companionship.  They also showed a clip of the reality show Gigolo.  GJ gets 10-20% off the escort.  There are 35 workers in 7 cities.  The company is about bringing the "boyfriend experience."

The escort Vin, who's bald and kind of looks like Vin Diesel was on it.  He was talking about clients.

Vin: When she feels beautiful, she is beautiful.

One woman in the audience said "Good for you and your clients if your clients are happy."  Another woman said: "I wouldn't really like this because it's not genuine."

Dateline: That also brings me back again to Dateline: to Catch a Predator about that 35 yr old guy who dates a 12 yr old girl.  If he buys a prostitute, and gets her to act like his girlfriend, that's not real.  Yeah, well neither is dating a 12 yr old girl.  The girl will fall in love with the guy, but he is not really going to fall in love with her.

That 35 yr old guy seems to be desperate enough to delude himself into dating a 12 yr old girl, I'm sure he can delude himself to pretend he's in love with a prostitute.

May 8 Recycle: I went to Staples today to recycle some batteries.  I saw that they can recycle pens, markers, and mechanical pencils.  That's good, because I thought you couldn't recycle it.

Dollarama: I went to Dollerama today.  I read in a Globe and Mail Life section article where Angela Self writes about how you can buy so much cheap stuff like party supplies and cooking utensils.

Rescue story: I found this on Yahoo news.  "Roofer rescued after falling 40-feet into tank of corrosive nitric acid at a New Jersey industrial site."  An unknown man jumped in to save the roofer.  The other co-workers then pulled them out.  The roofer is being sedated right now, but he is alive.  All the other people have been to the hospital and has been released.

May 9 Occupation stories: On Apr. 27,2012, I was watching 20/20 about work.  It's a first-person account of what it's like to work at certain occupations.

Waiter:  They showed this video clip about Domino's pizza at South Carolina.  It's how this guy who worked their ruined the food as he was making it.  It was disgusting.  The guy and the person who was behind the camera shooting it was fired.  Good thing they got fired.

They interviewed Steve Dublanica who wrote the book Waiter Rant and has a blog.  My sister told me about it.  Check it out:

http://waiterrant.net/

He talked about having a rude customer so he said to him that his credit card was declined.  It wasn't really declined.  Nothing's worse than to look broke in front of your date.  That was kind of passive- aggressive.  Passive as in the waiter didn't say something mean to him, but aggressive in playing a trick on him.

They talked to the waiter behind The Bitter Waiter blog.  He said he told these customers that he called a cab for them.  Told them to wait by the dumpster, when in reality he never called the cab.

Dublanica says to customers: "Be polite and tip."

Me: I've worked in the food industry for a few years as a food counter attendant and a busser, so I can kind of relate.

Sales person:

Clothes: They talked to Freeman Hall who is a sales guy at a department store for 20yrs.  He has a book called Retail Hell.  Here's his website:

http://www.retailhellthebook.com/

He talked about he sold stuff like "This is the new It bag.  TMZ showed Jennifer Aniston carrying it.  She didn't.  Sorry Jen."  I think he was gay.  It was also really easy to sell to men, by saying this: "I bought this."

He rants about customers messing up the store, and returning stuff in poor condition.

Me: I have worked a clothing store for some months and an office supply store before.  I didn't use those techniques.  I greeted every customer that comes into the store, or at least my section.

Cars: They interviewed a car salesman, but he will only talk in the shadows.  He says: "We do the 'what if I give you a 10% off discount?  what if I can do this for you?"

The technique is to use "what if" and not what "I can."

Funerals: They interviewed 30 yr old Caleb Wild who sells coffins.  He's a funeral director and he's honest.  He says: "People buy out of guilt."

There was a case with a cremation.  Some of the ashes were replaced as wood ashes to substitute a loved one.

Performing: I was thinking about when you're working, you're performing.  You're not really being your true self.  I remember reading an article about being a waitress in the Globe and Mail life section.  It was called "She's not on the menu."  It's where guys hit on waitresses.  The article says: "She's smiling because she's paid to smile."

I'm also kind of wary with salespeople telling me I look good in something when I try it on.  They're probably just trying to sell it and make money off me.
