As a Dental Assistant, you will have the opportunity to work directly with dentists treating patients. You may also provide support to the dental office by working as a receptionist or a sterilization assistant. The average salary for Dental Assistant Professionals in Alberta is $28 per hour.

Ortho Module

Columbia College Dental Assistant Professional Diploma Program is excited to offer the theory portion of the Ortho Module to students in the DAPP who are in good academic standing in each Semester. Additional Ortho tutorials are offered to the students while in the program, and the clinical portion of the Ortho Module is offered once they have successfully written the NDAEB exam and become a Registered Dental Assistant.

Introduction

The Dental Assistant Professional Diploma Program is designed to provide you with the skills, technical knowledge, and clinical experience that are essential for you to become an effective member of the dental healthcare profession.

The curriculum provides the education needed by dental assistants who, as members of the dental health team, can assume responsibility for providing patient care in collaboration with other healthcare providers and in accordance with provincial regulations within the scope of practice of dental assistants in their province of registration and employment.

Columbia’s Dental Assistant Program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada.

Employment Opportunities

This program is intended for individuals seeking entry level employment in Sales and Service industries.

Some examples of sales and service jobs include: cashier, cleaner, grocery clerk, kitchen helper, laundry worker, hotel housekeeping, product demonstrator, salesperson, security guard, shelf stocker, serve/waitress.

Sales and Services Industry Workers Earn: $15.00 – $19.00 per hour to start.

Program Description

• 16 or 32 weeks
• Get Academic Upgrading in Essential Skills English, Math, and Computers.
• Study occupation specific modules to prepare for work experience
• Get training in:
  • Occupation Specific Vocabulary
  • Workplace language, Culture and Communications
  • Customer Service
  • Work Strategies
• Work experience placement – up to 6 weeks
• Job placement support from an Employment Specialist/Job Coach.
• Certificates in:
  • Standard First Aid CPR/AED Level C
  • Food Safety
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)

Norquest College-Foundation of Cooking Program/ Flight Attendant

Sept. 14, 2019 Foundation of Cooking Program:

Are you passionate about cooking and want to work in a fast-paced environment?

This program is currently funded by the Government of Alberta.


Admission Requirements:

• A passion for food and serving others
• An interest in working in a fast-paced environment, with a varied working schedule
• A current resident of Alberta, who is 18 years of age or older
• Currently unemployed or underemployed – must be currently on EI, have been on EI in the last 10 years, or eligible for EI
• Ready, willing, and able to commit 20 weeks to the training and participate in full-time employment upon completion of the program

Please forward your resume and intention to work in the culinary industry to continuingeducation@norquest.ca. We will be conducting interviews with interested candidates in advance of the training. Training will start on November 18, 2019.

 NorQuest College, in collaboration with the Government of Alberta, is offering the opportunity for those interested in joining this exciting industry to complete the Foundations of Cooking Program. This funded program consists of essential skills needed for success in the industry and basic skills required by professional chefs and cooks, including kitchen safety, knife technique, and the practical elements of cooking from scratch such as hot food preparation, cold food service, desserts, and a special unit on Indigenous foods. This course balances 50% classroom instruction with 50% kitchen instruction to prepare students for a successful start in the culinary field as an entry-level cook.
 
In addition to job-relevant training, candidates will also undergo six weeks of work experience, followed by work placement into a jobsite that is selected specifically for them.

This training is taught by industry professionals, with years of experience and are passionate about teaching the next generation of culinary professionals. This intensive training contains a focus on safe food preparation and work practices, customer services, and from scratch cooking methods. We’ve also added a module entirely dedicated to Indigenous Canadian cooking – a first for an Alberta Culinary Arts program!

XBUS 2600 - Flight Attendant: 

Looking for a career that can take you to new heights? Do you have a passion for travel, culture, adventure and providing amazing service? If so, flight attendant training is right for you - it’s not just a career, it’s a lifestyle.

Flight Attendant Training will allow you to work for a major airline and visit popular destinations around the world, or you could work in the corporate or private sector and find yourself jet-setting to the most exclusive and exotic locations in the world.

We understand that you have a job and responsibilities like your family or schooling. That's why we designed the course for eight Saturdays at our Edmonton downtown campus.

This course prepares Flight Attendant students to deal with any situation that may arise and will cover medical incidents, inflight emergencies and procedures, Persons Assigned Onboard Duties (PAOBD), safety and emergency equipment, security, standard safety procedures, executive customer service, interference with crew members, high altitude, the mechanics of flight, cabin crew communications, captain’s commands, and much more.

Training content is based on the Transport Canada Flight Attendant Training Syllabus and applicable Canadian Aviation Regulations for the private operator and commuter operations aviation sectors.

Students will also achieve the Certified Guest Service Professional designation, emergency first aid and CPR certification, food safety certification, and WHMIS certification, among others.

Industry requirements include, but are not limited to, a high school diploma, valid passport, well-groomed appearance, minimum age of 18, clean background check, and excellent health.

Classes take place on Saturdays from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
