Entry 3 Sept. 14, 2007

John is Gone

I met John last year in October. He went to school and worked full time. I was a full time student too, so we only saw each other once or twice a month. We always called and emailed each other. We were dating until the last time I saw him was in May. It wasn’t until the end of June; I spoke to him for the last time. The last conversation we had was short. John says, “My parents are taking me to Mexico, Medicine Hat and Banff for a few weeks.” I asked, “So you don’t want me to call you because of the long distance charges?” “No, my phone expires at midnight. You can leave a message, but I can’t access it,” he answered. “But we’ll keep in touch,” he promised before we hung up.

July passed and I haven’t seen or heard from him at all. I then called his work which was a Chinese restaurant. I talked to a girl who worked there and she gave me his expired cell phone number. She explained, “Well his father called and said he was going to sue us. The area code was not from Edmonton.”

Now it’s September and I called his school asking if he was still attending. I created a story about how I found his school ID and wanted to return it to him. The secretary told me to give it to security. I then wrote a letter addressed to him and send it to his school. A week has passed and there is still no reply.

I view my options. I could post fliers at his school asking if anyone has seen him, go to a private detective and go to a psychic. I called a private investigation company and they said they don’t do locates. I emailed this other company and they said they do profiling. Until then, I will wait for him

“If what we know is what resembles us, what we know is a garden.”

An interesting analogy. I feel that the first part about “what we know is what resembles us” is true. I want to add, what we like and what we experience is what makes us who we are. Where we’re from and what our family is like create our identity.

Garden means a variety of things because they grow vegetables, fruits, flowers, and plants. Each individual knows many things about all sorts of subjects. We learn and grow from our life experiences. A garden resembles life. There is often a lot of color in a garden which is like life.

Entry 2 Sept. 7, 2007

“Of all the guys who are standing around bus shelters in Edmonton, dressed in nothing but their underpants, Marky Mark is undeniably the most polite.”

This kind of reminds me of that time six years ago when I was in college. My friends had dared me to run around the block in my boxers. I took the dare. It was cold, but I managed. I saw a girl waiting for the bus. She was standing there with her headphones on. She saw me and gave me a weird look. She took off her headphones and asked, “Are you okay?” I said, “Yes. How are you?” “I’m good,” she replies. “Where are your clothes?” “They’re at the dry cleaners. I’m going out for a jog while I wait.” I burst out laughing and said, “I’m kidding. My friends dare me to. One of them is in that apartment looking at us.” I pointed at the apartment where Derek was.

“What’s your name?” she asked. “Garret,” I answered. “Hi, I’m Julie.” We got into a nice conversation as she was waiting for the bus. Then her bus came and she left. She did tell me she always took that bus after work. So the next day I went to the bus stop and waited for her. She wasn’t there. I came again the day after that and she showed up. “It’s you again,” she said.

“Yes, me. It’s Garret, by the way.”
“Yeah, I remember.”
“You doing anything tonight?” I asked.
“Going home.”
“Well why don’t you come to the bar with me and my friends. It’s the Vertex. It’s a few blocks from here.”
Julie’s eyes lit up. “Oh I know where that is. We can take the bus there.”

We took the bus and got into the Vertex. We had a lot of fun. I had a few drinks, she didn’t drink any alcohol. I introduced her to Derek. I laughed at all her jokes. By midnight, she said she had to leave.

“So soon?” I asked. “It’s midnight.”
She replies, “Yeah and that’s late. I’m going home. See ya.”
I hailed a cab for her and pulled her into a hug before she got in. It was one of the best nights I ever had.

"Fight or Flight" by Tracy Au

Fight or Flight
By Tracy Au

Corrine is a badass. She often is calm, but she can snap if someone threatens her. She has determination to get things done, to get to the bottom of things, to get to the core, to get to the ending.

It was a Tuesday night at the bar. Corrine heads to the washroom. She hears some punching noises in the back room. She opens the door where the sound is coming from. She opens the door slowly and sees Boz punching Ivan while two other guys are holding him. Boz turns around and sees her. She panics and closes the door and speeds away. Flight. Boz grabs her in the hallway and pushes her into the women’s room. He grabs her throat and pushes her to the wall. He says, “You tell anyone what you saw and I will make sure you won’t see anything again.” He walks to the door. Corrine pushes Boz to the wall. Fight. Her courage was up when earlier it was gone. He turns around and takes a swing at her. She backs away and Boz misses. They start punching each other.

He pushes her out to the hall and to the manager’s office. He pushes her into the book shelf. A few books fell off. Corrine pushes the bookshelf over and Boz dodges out of the way. Boz pulls out a gun and she throws a book at him. That’s when people start yelling “What’s going on?” Boz bolts. She climbs over the book shelf and runs to the hallway, but he’s gone. She goes to the room where Ivan was getting beaten up. He lies on the floor. The bartender comes in. “Call 911. He needs an ambulance. I saw him getting beat up by this guy,” says Corrine. The bartender runs to his office and dials 911.

"Blackout" short story by Tracy Au

Blackout
By Tracy Au

This was my first week working at the Vertex. It’s a computer company and I work at the call centre section. I went to the coffee room on my way to the elevator. The boss Crow and a few of my coworkers were there. Crow says, “There isn’t going to be an oil industry anymore due to how there will be no more oil. What’s your take on this Corrine?” I asked, “What is this? A Mensa meeting?” They laughed. “I don’t really care. We should all take the bus because it’s better for the environment. See you tomorrow.”

At the elevator I press the G button. Then came a black out. I wasn’t too surprised because that occurs during the winter time. I was standing in the dark for about twenty seconds waiting for the lights to come back on. Damn it. I don’t have a flashlight or a cell phone. I decided to trace my fingers with the wall to get back to the office. Someone would have a cell phone. The safety lights went on. I was relieved, but not for long. I jumped as a masked man punches me in the face. “Hey! You bitch!” I shouted. He grabbed me from behind and puts his arm around my neck. He’s trying to choke me! I started freaking out. I bit his arm. I knock my head back and it hits his face. The back of my head was aching, but I ignored the pain. I elbow him away and swing my bag at his head and he falls over. I kick him in the stomach and ran back to the office.

Crow rushed out. “Are you okay? I heard some shouting.” “A man just attacked me and he’s in the hallway,” I told him. “I’ll call security,” the woman behind him said. “Do you know how he looked like?” she asked. “No, he was wearing a mask. He might have gotten away, but I kicked him down. Let’s go back there and take the mask off,” I said. “I’ll come with,” said Crow.

Crow and I rushed back to where the attack occurred. The man was gone. I asked “Aren’t there security cameras?” Crow says “Oh yeah!” We clambered down the staircase to the front desk at the ground floor which has all the security cameras. “Go to the 5th floor” I told the security guard. “They’re all not working. It must have been the black out” he explained. The security guard looks up and a young man walks towards us from the hallway. “What are you still doing here Boz?” “I decided to come to work 10 hours early. No, I was going to go to the parking lot, but then went to the washroom” answers Boz.

“Did you see anyone leaving or coming in since the black out?” I asked. The guard shook his head, “It’s been really quiet. The attacker could have left through the back door come to think of it, but the cameras aren’t working. I’ll call the police.” Boz’s nose was bleeding. “Your nose is bleeding” I told him. “Oh yeah,” says Boz. He put his briefcase on the table and the guard handed him a box of tissues. I grabbed the briefcase. “Hey!” shouted Boz. I opened it and pulled out the mask that the attacker was wearing.

new/ music/ news

Dec. 30 New: A new year is upon us. I've gotten a new haircut. My desk lamp light bulb stopped working, so I got new light bulb. I bought my new buspass. I've also been writing enough, that my pen lost ink and I got new pen.

Funny: I was looking up videos of the actor JR Bourne. I put in Selling Innocence, this TV movie he was in. I found this guy who is giving this summary of the movie on his video blog. He is snarking on it. I am laughing at it. In the end, he's saying: "Maybe after this, they'll create some cyber stalker movie called Damn Youtube!" lol.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1P3ykxBkepQ

Here's the first 5 minutes of Selling Innocence. JR Bourne plays the agent scouting models. The first scene is set in the West Edmonton Mall HMV stage. Alexz Johnson (Instant Star) makes an appearance 1: 45 seconds in.

Dec. 31 Writing: Last night I had a dream about the movie Hard Candy. I don't know why, I haven't seen it in a long time. Then I realized that this movie must have been triggered from me watching Dexter. Dexter is a serial killer that kills other killers. In Hard Candy starring Ellen Page (before she got big in Juno) and Patrick Wilson (Lakeview Terrace).

Page's character is 14- year- old girl who hunts down pedophiles on the internet and kills them or gets them to commit suicide. I should write some sort of vigilante story. Spiderman and Batman are vigilantes, but they wear masks and it's more of a fantasy world. Dexter and Hard Candy are about people without superpowers, or masks. I wouldn't exactly say that Dexter and Hailey from HC, to be normal people, they are sociopaths. They are very based in reality.

I remember in 2006, my friend Angela came over to my house and I showed her the movie. A said about Hailey: "She's a bitch."
Me: I would say that too, but I mean that as a compliment. You don't want to f--- with her.

Jan. 1: Selling Innocence came out in 2005. Here's the synopsis on imdb.com: "Mia Sampson's (Sarah Lind) dreams to be a model come true when she's asked to pose for photographs to be displayed on an Internet website for "members only." However, when the owner of the website uses her pictures for exploitation purposes, Mia's mother (Mimi Rogers) must fight to remove the photos off the web and restore her daughter's privacy."

Now that I think about it, Mia confronts the bad guy Malcolm (JR Bourne) to take down the pictures. He doesn't because he is making a lot of money off them. Mia then decides to do this one time live webcam show where she takes off all her clothes so he would take down the photos.

Mia couldn't call the police, because what he was doing wasn't totally against the law. Unethical, but he wasn't breaking the law. Mia should threaten to kick his ass. Will he admit that he got his ass kicked by a girl? Or I don't know, burn down his office building. Yeah, it's extreme. The thing is don't get caught. Make sure there aren't any cameras outside the building. If there are cameras, wear a disguise. Vandalize the place. All these actions break the law. lol.

Last night I deleted the script Corrine. I think I started writing it in May or June. I was looking through my blog, to pin point when, but then I realized it may have been created back in February.

Music: Last night I heard this song by Donnie Klang called "Bedroom." It's a great song that got me dancing. It's so hot. It's got a great beat with suggestive lyrics. If anyone should sing this, it should be Donnie.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CF1-9ReiJIo&feature=related

Here is Donnie performing at the mall. At the end he does the slower version of "Take you There" while playing the keyboard. He's singing and dancing and he lifts up his shirt once in awhile. He touches his fan's hands. Then in the end, he takes off his shirt and throws it into the audience. I laughed at that.

Today I achieved something today. My mom has been nagging at me for the past couple of weeks to find these pair of shoes that she lent me. I looked upstairs last night where the shoes are, and they aren't there. Today mom asked me again, and then I went downstairs where the shoes are and found them in three minutes.

Movie: Today I saw An Inconvenient Truth. I was going to rent it on the last day of summer in 2007, but I decided not to. It was an alright movie. Kind of boring like March of the Penguins, because it's educational. Al Gore talking was like listening to a teacher talk. Kind of reminds me of Dr. Phil. The movie was informative. It does teach you something and how the environment affects you. It's an average movie. If you are interested in the environment, then go watch it.

Jan. 2 Crazy: Today at work, this guy tried to dine and dash. Don yelled at him to stop, and Stella went and called security. One security guy came in and interviewed the guy who appeared to be homeless. Then two male security guards and a female security guard came. All four of them were talking to him.

The guy ate the sandwich, and then said something about not having enough money and left. I overhead him talking to the security guards that he was starving. Kind of reminds me of Treats, where Aziz does donate his leftover muffins to homeless shelters at the end of the day.

Here is something even crazier: I was reading on twop.com about "Ripped! from the Headlines! Plot Recycling and other Weasly Writing Tricks" stories on Law and Order: SVU. Someone wrote this:

"I can't believe we overlooked this case- Neil Havens Rodreick, the 29 year old sex offender posing as a 12 year old boy in various schools. And it gets better- he and his former cell mate were living with two older pedophiles he met online whom he also conned into thinking that he was 12." Here is the full story:

News: I read this in Metro that U.S. album sales have decreased the seventh time in the past eight years. I'm not surprised, blame it on Itunes.

In the sad news department, I read that there are four homicides in Calgary already. A car accident on highway 63 killed a man. John Travolta's 16- year- old son Jett died after having a seizure.

coincidence/ names/ lesson

Dec. 27 Coincidence: Today at work, I was talking to Silvia.

Me: Did you go to West Edmonton mall?
S: Yeah.
Me: Today I read in the Edmonton Journal about a new restaurant called the Red Piano on Bourbon Street. It says it's really good, but rather expensive. A salad is $13 and the same goes for a sandwich.
S: I was there last Saturday. It's $10 cover charge just to get in. The bouncer said that we had to be 21 and over, but he said: "Well you look like nice girls, so I'll let you in." All the people there were like in their 40s so it was awkward.
Me: Oh yeah, in the article it said it's for people over 25.
S: I bought a drink and it was like $7 and it didn't taste good. It was raspberry- something.

Dream: I had this weird dream the other night. The Jonas Brothers worked at the Soup place. In my head I was thinking: "Well I guess more girls are going to come here."

Job: I want to add that Lisa quit after two weeks and Ray quit. That will be 10 people who quit for the 7 months that I have worked there.

Names: At work, Silvia told me that she knows a guy named Awesome, but it's spelled Aseem.
Me: Is he East- Indian?
S: Yes.
Me: I know a girl named Harmonie. Guess what her sister's name is.
S: Peace. I'm just kidding. Angel?
Me: Melodie. I know this guy named Alpha. I asked: "What's your sister's name? Beta?" He's like: "No, it's Charlene. Do you know how many times I get that?"

I told my sister this.

S guessed right on Harmonie's sister being named Melodie.

I asked my brother P what Harmonie's sister name was and he said: "Joy."

Me: I have a friend named Leslie Simpson.
Silvia: What's so funny?
Me: People always tell her that her name sounds like Lisa Simpson from The Simpsons.
That's rare that she didn't make the connection.

Flash Gordon: Earlier this week, I saw a commercial for the TV show Flash Gordon. I know about this show because it stars Edmonton actor Eric Johnson (Whitney from Smallville.) It was on the Sci-fi channel in 2007. In the summer I heard that it will be on the Space Channel here in Canada. I was excited. I tried to look for when the show will be on, but I couldn't find it.

Then I saw that commercial that the show will be on Space on Saturdays. I looked it up on my TV, and it said it will be on at 5pm. Damn it, I'm at work. All I can say is that this show has been airing since September, and I missed all the episodes because I was at work and that I didn't know when it was on. I'll see if I can rent the first season on dvd. I know the show got cancelled from Sci-fi after one season.

Dec. 28: Today I worked on a Sunday from 10:30am-5pm. It was slow so I was able to do some writing.

Lesson: I learned something from the TV show Made in Canada back in 2003. The show is about a group of TV producers in Canada. It's a comedy. The lesson is you can't force someone to quit their job. Well you can, but you will most likely get sued for it. In the episode, Rick Mercer's character Richard and his friend Victor were trying to get another producer fired.

R calls the Producer in the middle of the night: "You need to delete this character and writer her off the show."
V calls the Producer also at the same time: "You need to keep that (same) character and write more storylines for her."

Producer then sues the company for purposely trying to get him to quit the job. Well R and V were being too blatantly obvious in trying to get him to quit.

When I worked at the Big Company, they basically said to me: "Shape up or ship out. Become good at your job right now, or quit." They weren't trying to get me to quit, they were trying to make me improve or quit.

I also remembered Lisa who used to work at the Soup place. She told me how she worked at Treats in the Commerce building in City Centre mall, and the boss was always yelling at her over little things. I don't think he was trying to get her to quit. He hired her, and then she quit after a week. That guy was basically a jerk.

Dec. 29 Dexter: Today was my day off so I rented the second season of the TV show Dexter. I borrowed two discs. I watched the first six episodes in a row. I wanted to watch the second season for a long time. First I couldn't get it on TV. I watched the first season on CTV when Showtime was airing the second season. Then I had to wait until the second season comes on dvd.

Then when it was on dvd, I was busy working, and there were all these new episodes of my favorite TV shows like Prison Break and Heroes. I get a day off, and there is nothing on TV all day so that's why I watched it. It's a really good show. I'm sure my friend Leslie will be happy that I won't be emailing her if she can burn me the episodes on a cd-rom or a USB key now. lol.

Look alike: Oh yeah, and there is a new character on the show, Special Agent Ted Lundy. He's the same actor who played a serial killer on Criminal Minds. He looks like my Writing for the Ear teacher Derek.

Movie: I saw March of the Penguins last night. It's Morgan Freeman narrating the movie. It was on TV. I thought the movie was going to be boring, and I was right. I wouldn't pay to see it in the theatres or rent it. I could get to watch this for free on TV. Patrick is always watching animal documentaries on Discovery Channel. This movie is another documentary I could have easily saw on Discovery. If you like penguins or Morgan Freeman, go watch it.

Blog: This is my 100th blog post on www.badcb.blogspot.com. I started this blog in Basic HTML earlier this year. This is also my last blog of this year. Well I didn't start putting up my weekly emails until April. Also in October, I put up all these old emails I saved so that is how I ended up at 100 posts at the end of the year.

news/ job/ funny

Dec. 25 News: Last night I was watching CNBC with Patrick. Did you know that the average man in Russia lives to be 59 years old. In the US, a average man lives to be 75 years old. Russia is the nation that drinks the most alcohol.

Writing: I realized that I have twenty- three 3.5 floppy disks, yet I only have 5 scripts. Only one is truly complete. Yes, I write on scrap paper, but they don't always make it onto the disks.

I learned something from Glynis. Stories need conflict, and I can create conflict in drama. I can't write conflict in comedy. As I was watching The Mentalist, I decided to write drama, with some comedy peppered in.

Music: I borrowed the new Madonna cd called "Hard Candy" from the library. It's an alright cd. It's got some good dance tracks. I don't really like her voice. She's a good performer in music. Not exactly good in the movies. It's like with Mandy Moore and Jessica Simpson. They debuted as music artists, but are more successful in the movies than in music.

Today I saw The Young and the Restless. C'mon, I haven't seen that show since August when I had those days off. It was a Christmas episode. I was eating my lunch and vacuuming and the show was on.

I watched an episode of Tru Calling. Now I'm thinking of rewinding time back to 2003, and telling all my friends to watch the show. That wouldn't make a difference because this show is on FOX, and it would still have been cancelled anyway.

Dec. 26 Job: Today I worked from 9am-5pm. It's the first time I opened by myself. It's a Friday, but it felt like a Saturday due to the stream of customers. I also got to chat with Silvia. She remembered that I used to work at a bank. I also gave her a rundown of all the people who worked here:

"Kristen and Angel worked here for one day, and I never met them. Rashed and Jenna worked here for one day and quit, and I met them. Jennifer worked here for a month and then quit. Dana worked here for a month, and quit. There was a girl who worked here for a week and quit. Mark quit, and Molly took over. Maygen quit three days ago."

Funny: So today was interesting. Silvia said that our co-worker Christine didn't remember her name, even though they have worked for a few years together. Now that I think about, that has happened to me before.

I know this guy Shane Goden since 1999. We went to high school together. I think. Well I know we were in the same gr. 9 homeroom. Then I bumped into him in 2006. I remembered his name, but he didn't remember mine. He did say he knows me.

Then I bumped into Melina whom I know since 1999, and when to high school with. We graduated in 2003. Then in 2005, I bumped into her on the bus. Then in 2006 we met again on the bus. Then a few months ago this year, I bumped into her at the mall. She thought my name was Vivian or something. We've known each other all these years, but the name slipped her mind.

It also happend with this guy Tyler who I went to high school with. I bumped into him 2005. He remembered my name then. Then I bumped into him in 2006, and he was like: "Tracy right?" He wasn't quite sure.

Facebook: Today I gave a Facebook gift to all 54 of my friends there. Omar from MacEwan posted on my wall saying this: "Thanks. At first I was wary of getting virtual cologne--conscientious in fact--and then I realized that everyone was getting cologne, so, I feel better, and delighted too! Merry Christmas."
lol.
