Today, November 20, is National Child Day! This official day celebrates the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. This international agreement sets out standards and principles that help children and youth thrive. Today we recognize the importance of the Convention for children in Canada and worldwide.

Bring Your MP to School Day

UNICEF Canada celebrates National Child Day with “Bring your MP to School Day”, an opportunity for Members of Parliament and their youngest constituents to engage in a meaningful discussion and learn from each other. Even though children don’t vote in elections, they have the right to be heard and to voice their opinions, and this civic engagement opportunity allows them to do just that.

This year we asked students to envision a nation where all children truly belong, and to tell us what it looks like. Their ideas will help MPs understand what children want Canada to be and to make decisions informed by the youngest citizens.

Canada is a big country. Together, we can ensure that no child is too far to be heard.
