Art Works Festival/ misogynistic poster

Jun. 22 Art Works Festival: Yesterday I stayed at home all day and basically researched companies.  I did enjoy the good weather by sitting outside and reading the newspaper and 1984.  This morning I was productive with my job search.

The afternoon I finally did something fun.  I went to the Art Works Festival in Churchill Square.

1.  Jordan Pearson: is an artist who uses acrylic and encaustic paintings and art pieces.  Encaustic is beeswax.  I asked her if she was here last year and she said yes.  She's selling these pieces for art school.

2. Earth to Body skin nutrition:  They had nice wooden shelves to display their products.

3. S Cross Creations: sold women's clothes.

4. Oceana  Patina: they sold watches with wooden straps.  They looked nice.

5. Rhythms Art Glass: They sold nice art pieces made of glass.  Check it out:

6. Henna Art: They decorate you with these temporary Henna tattoos.  They do sell oil and soap.

7. Artemis: It's a jewelry store from West Edmonton Mall and they had a booth there.

8. Redhead's Bazaar: They sell glass art pieces of hearts and starfish.

9. Dazzling Designs: Indian clothes, purses, and jewelry.

10. Tim Koslo: He makes art and t-shirts.

11. Jewels by Amy: This is expensive and nice jewelry.

12. Punky Potato: Burgers and fries.
13. Thai food.
14. Lemon Heaven- makes lemonade.
15. Ice cream and frozen yogurt.
16. Butter chicken.
17. Margarita village.
18. Extreme
 Wraps.
19. Fat Franks.
20. Panda Hut.
21. Bannock Burger.

22. Perry Medina: He is an artist and his paintings are surreal.

23. Jewelery by Jakie: This is African jewelry.

24. Pixie Glassworks: I've seen their glass pens and jewelery before.  They hold their booths at these festivals all the time.

25. Family programs: There were lots of kids doing arts and crafts.

26. A new thing was this ride where people ride on shopping cart swings.  People took pics of it because it's unique.

27. Cripsie art: It was an exhibit and a close of up of people's hands.

28. 2013 M.A.D.E. Street furniture where people were cutting wood and making furniture.  It kind of reminded me of gr. 8 and 9 when I was in shop class.  I made a tray in gr. 8.  5 yrs later I donated it to the Salvation army because I don't use it.  In gr. 9  I made a key holder and a few years later threw it out.  I did make a mirror that I still have and use in my room.

29. Tix on Square.  I haven't been there since last year.  They sell books, clothes, and art by local artists.

Jun. 23 Fun video: I found this on Yahoo.  This guy is playing the guitar and bouncing a basketball at the same time.  Then he shoots the ball into the hoop.  He plays guitar well with one hand.

Jun. 26 Discount Flags: I found this store on Argyll road.  They sell flags, slot machines, and fireworks.  That reminds me of The Simpsons where they stay at a beach house and Honer buys fireworks for the Fourth of July party.  He goes to a convenience store and buys a bunch of stuff to get the
 fireworks.

Homer: Let me have one of those porno magazines... large box of condoms.....a bottle of old Harper,.... a couple of those panty shields.... some illegal fireworks, and one of those disposable enemas, nah, make it two.

Here's the video clip:

Jun. 28: I read in the Edmonton Journal that you can buy fireworks, but you need a license.

Online dating: My sister checked out this book called Love in the Time of Algorithms by Dan Slater.  I read a few chapters.  It mentioned these dating websites I haven't heard of before.

Jdate is for Jewish singles: http://www.jdate.com/

It mentions OkCupid and I thought: "I've heard of it.  How long have they been here?"  According to this article, since 2004:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/09/ok-cupid-tips-tricks-what-not-to-do_n_1654563.html

David Anders: He is this actor that I've been a fan of since 2002 when I first saw on him on Alias.  I have started following him on Twitter.  I like to look at his pics.  I feel this connection to him.  I did tweet to
him that I have been of his since 2002.  He never tweeted back.  That's fine.

Handwriting: Lisa Marino emailed me this: "What does your handwriting say about you?"  I put it up on my Facebook.  It's fun to read.  I think it's kind of accurate for my writing.  lol.

Clutter: I found this article on how to de-clutter from this feng shui e-newsletter Red Lotus.  I like this line because it's also about consumerism:

"Lastly, recreational shopping creates an overload of unused, unwanted household items. Hitting the mall every weekend just packs your house and empties your wallet."

Jun. 29: I've been reading a lot about feng shui and I was emailed this quiz from Red Lotus.  It's time to test my knowledge.  I got a 9/20.

Jun. 30 Maggie Walt: I was reading the Edmonton Journal and it turns out the women's clothing store Maggie Walt on Jasper Ave is closing down by August.  It says it's been there for 10 yrs as a retail store.  Everything is 30-90% off and I put that on my Facebook status update.

I remember doing a little phone interview with them a couple of years ago.  They were looking for full-time.  I finally see their website.  It looks really good with their graphics and pics of their merchandise.  It's expensive, the necklaces I saw on the website are like at least $300.  Now that it's on sale, maybe it will be affordable.

The Witchery: This is also from the Edmonton Journal.  I thought it was cool that she sells incense and oils that are also kind of magical.

Jul. 1 Long weekend: It's a good thing that the weekend before the Canada long weekend, I went out and had fun.  On Sat. Jun. 22 I went to the Art Works Festival and City Centre mall.  This long weekend, I worked.  The last 2 days were steady, but today was really busy and we were running around.  We also got 2 new employees.

Jul. 2 Talk show queens: Alex Hillsburg sent me this infographic about Oprah Winfrey and Ellen Degeneres, about how much money they make, and what charities they support.  Did you know that Oprah donated $400 million to charity in her lifetime?  As for Ellen she supports lots of charities.

The first paragraph was mainly about how women only make 70 cents/hr compared to a man's $1/hr.  I remember hearing that years ago on CNN.

Miss USA: Then it was mentioned on Miss USA 2013 where Miss Utah flubbed the question.  They asked about: "Why do women make up half the workforce and yet make less than men do?"

Miss Utah: We need to create education better to solve this problem.

Here's the video.  I will say she didn't really flub the answer.  It was kind of a mediocre answer because it wasn't very clear.  I do like the question because I am interested in business and women in the
 workforce.

Jul. 11 Misogynistic poster: My friend Maygen put this on her Facebook status update.  It's a poster of a young woman with a drink in her hand: "Just because you regret a one night stand.  Doesn't mean it wasn't consensual.  Don't be that girl."

I put that poster on my status update and added: "I found this poster disturbing. To guys: Don't rape and have sex with a woman who is unconscious. I see that it's saying to women to not falsely accuse someone of sexual assault. If you are raped, report it to the police right away. You can file a report, and don't have to press charges. You just need to report it. 80% of rapes don't even get reported."

My friend Judith on Facebook added this: "Never been on TWITter. But yes that particular post is just another attempt to scare victims of sexual assault or assault of any kind not to report it. (It's violating enough to be assaulted, but to be 're-victimized is why a huge percentage of victims 'Do Not' report it)."

I decided to put this on Facebook too: "That was yesterday.  Now today, it still has an effect on me, and I would like to add: Very few false rapes are reported.  It is not as prevalent as real rapes.  False rapes are not a problem.  Real rapes are a huge problem.  So with drinking and driving, that is very prevalent."
